Hi Mumsnetters.

Okay, this is going to sound completely bonkers, but my husband noticed a soaking wet patch on one of our pillows yesterday. We were puzzled as to what it might be but decided to wash it in case it was a stray cat that had snuck in and peed on the pillow. Today I stripped off the pillowcase and threw it with the pillow into the washing machine, but I then got distracted and ended up eating a snack before remembering to wash my hands.

I'm 27 weeks pregnant and I've read a lot of scary stuff about toxoplasmosis. Does anybody know whether this is something I should worry about?

How likely is it that a stray cat actually got into your house and weed on your pillow? Have stray cats got into your house before? Have you had your windows open in this weather?

The whole things seems pretty unlikely tbh, you don’t even know it’s cat pee, you don’t have a cat. Even if it is it’s happened now and you can’t do much about it.

I'm in New Zealand so it is summer and yes we have had the windows open. We have just moved into this house so I can't say, but yes we have had stray cats (or at least cats we don't know where they come from) make themselves at home before. That's why we thought it was a reasonable possible explanation.

A stray cat came in a pissed on your pillow? Do you live somewhere hot with a lot of stray cats?

Toxoplasmosis is from cat poo not pee.

You'll be fine.
