Hi all,
Quick question. I have a planned c section on Friday. Just wondering if and when you have a period. Its my 1st c section. Very nervous 😓

A period?

And don’t be nervous….both my babies were born via sections and they were still very special moments. I was a bit nervous, as is natural, but it was so much better than I had expected.

You will bleed on and off for about 6 weeks after. Return of menstruation is different for everyone and will depend if you’re breastfeeding. Some get a period after a month, others may not for over a year

The first period is nothing to do with having a CS and more down to individual variation. If you are breastfeeding very regularly, this makes your period less likely to return. If you formula feed or mix feed, it can be back within 4 weeks.

I've had two CS and breastfed round the clock. My period came back at 12 weeks with one (v early for somebody exclusively breastfeeding) and at 12 months with the other, once he was sleeping longer. So it really depends!

Thanks for all your answers. The only reason I ask as like I've stated its my 1st c section. I've had 3 vaginal births previously so i know what to expect.

Thanks to those who wished me good luck x

@jadey1991 i had my twins in July via c section and I think it was roughly a month or so after I had my first period again…try walk as much as possible after having it done as it will help
