Incompetent cervix/cervical length

Hello, I am currently 16 weeks pregnant and on progesterone suppositories as my last daughter was born at 31 weeks. I didn’t have cervical length measurements during that pregnancy so no idea if it was due to incompetent cervix or not, but I guess the progesterone now is precautionary.
my question is how often do people have cervical length scans? I’ve read online some weekly, some twice weekly and some just once at 16 weeks and once at 24 weeks. I had a scan a few days ago and cervix measured 2.5cm, so borderline.
thanks

Most people who need scans will have one at 16w and from there the schedule varies depending on the result. My 16w scan was a good length so I didn't have another until 20w. Since your 16w scan was borderline I'd expect they'll get you back a lot sooner, probably 1-2 weeks. Did they not book in your next appointment already?

We are abroad for work for 6 weeks. I get back at 17.5 weeks and have my scan scheduled for then (the consultant at home said this would be fine for a first scan). I only had a scan here the other day as was worried i felt a bit of increased pressure so thought better safe than sorry. It seems to have settled now though. The doctor here said cervix was closed and all would be ok until we got back to the Uk. I’m just panicking of course! I also read that having a Tv scan with a full bladder can make the cervix appear longer than it actually is 🤦‍♀️. My bladder was full (the doctor said that’s fine) but worrying it may be shorter than measured.

ok so it's only 10 days or so until you come back to the UK and have your first 'official' scan. I'm sure it'll be fine, it's not too long to wait at 2.5cm (or even 2cm), particularly if you have already been started on progesterone.

yes 10 days until the next scan (and it will be just over 2 weeks between scans). Thank you for the reassurance 🙂🤞

They may well offer you a cervical stitch at that length - I had fortnightly scans from 14 weeks then when cervix shortened to about 2.8cm a weekly scan.

@GingerKombucha can I ask what length your cervix started at and how quickly it shortened to 2.8cm? Did it continue to shorten after this?

I think it started not much longer - about 3 or 3.5 cm. Shortened at about 19 weeks then continued to shorten and I had an emergency cervical stitch at 21 weeks.
