Craving coke non stop!!

I'm 12 weeks pregnant and for the last 5 weeks I have drank easily 6 cans of coke each day! It's coke zero so not full of sugar but still I'm worried that this is extremely unhealthy and likely not good in pregnancy? But my craving is ridiculous for it. I will literally wake up in the night and drunk a whole can, go back to bed and not even remember doing it?? Is this normal in pregnancy?? I'm a first time mum so I've not experienced cravings like this before! Also if there's anyone with any medical background, could you advise if this is dangerous to my baby? Before I was pregnant I would hardly ever drink fizzy drinks, let alone 6 in one day!!

When i was pregnant all I craved was mcdonalds coke. I could easily drink two or 3 large coke zeros in one sitting 😳 I gave birth 3 weeks ago and that craving has disappeared completely!

CluelessPadme · 26/11/2023 23:17

It’s a lot of caffeine OP - six cans puts you right at the max recommended so hopefully you’re not having tea, coffee or lots of chocolate?

That said, I remember craving fizzy drinks when I was nauseous; the bubbles settled my stomach. What is it about the coke that you crave?

XenaTheWarriorPrincess · 27/11/2023 01:56

The caffeine content does have the potential to cause harm if its done over a long period to excess.

Try to cut out anything else caffeinated and don't go over 6 cans a day and you should be fine. Recommended daily maximum is 200mg and cola zero has about 34mg in a 330ml can.

Mines was diet irn bru.

I couldn't stop 😩

RiderofRohan · 27/11/2023 02:14

I would suggest you find alternatives. Your teeth will suffer! And also not good for baby or you. Try replacing it with cordial and fizzy water.

haribosmarties · 27/11/2023 02:18

The advice is only 1 330ml can a day to be safe regarding the sweetners.
The caffiene content might also be an issue if drinking six cans a day..
I'd try and cut down a bit.
But it is hard I understand! I'm currently pregnant and work nights and was drinking a couple of bottles of 500ml Pepsi max each shift... but I've manged to cut down to the occasional can every few days.
It's addictive stuff! And it tastes delicious

coxesorangepippin · 27/11/2023 02:26

Have you been checked for diabetes??

Sounds like you're craving sugar

therealcookiemonster · 27/11/2023 02:33

as far as cravings go, could have been worse but you are right, caffeine in excess is not really ideal in pregnancy (or tbh for anyone)

is it the fizziness or the specific coke flavour? if its the sweet, cold, fizzy that you are craving, you can try squash mixed with sparkling water . try different flavours until you hit the right flavour combo.

I was exactly the same with Coke Zero during the 1st trimester. I had to just stop myself

Latenightreader · 27/11/2023 06:24

I craved coke too! It was the only craving I had. I avoided it for the first trimester because of the caffeine (I don’t drink caffeinated things usually so they tend to affect me) and strictly limited myself after that. It was the syrupy sweetness for me. I drank dandelion and burdock sometimes but it wasn’t the same.

Olika · 27/11/2023 06:30

I would really find something else to drink as it's not good for you or the baby.

Cas112 · 27/11/2023 06:32

Your body is craving sugar, you may be best having a small glass of the sugar version than the 6 no sugar versions which are full of aspartame btw.

Also speak to your midwife

JuliaGoolias · 27/11/2023 06:55

I think you need to ask your midwife for advice. Flowers

IcedupTulip · 27/11/2023 06:59

I had this but it was regular coke and it soothed the morning sickness. When I wanted it I would just have a sip or two and that would be enough, luckily so probably drank a can a day. Maybe try that although I know cravings are hard to stop

BellaNutella88 · 27/11/2023 07:00

You can buy Coke Zero zero which has no caffeine in. I had a Coke Zero addiction before pregnancy but now all I want is a full fat coke or irn bru! I have one or two caffeine free cokes and the occasional full fat to satisfy the craving.

Ive also been really enjoying the robinsons squeezy strawberry açai in water and so trying to have more squash instead of fizzy drinks.

first tri is hard though so just do your best and cut down where you can.

Valeriesknickknacks · 27/11/2023 07:12

If you're worried about the caffeine you could switch it out for caffeine free Diet Coke
