16 weeks pregnant and having a bunch of fake memories

Just that really. I'm probably being silly and worrying about nothing, but today I have been having constant fake memories of things that never happened, it started this morning. I also woke up with sleep paralysis (I think that's what it's called) three times with the feeling that I couldn't breath and was gasping for air.

It's probably nothing, but is it normal at this stage for your brain to play tricks like this on you?

thank you

Hey are the memories while asleep or awake? Cos I remember from 12 years ago that vivid really realistic dreams are common? But fake memories, not heard of that before. It could be your brains way of dealing with stuff, and the breathing could be anxiety? Are you anxious? Also is this your 1st pregnancy? Also are you OK on a whole?

Hi! thank you so much for your reply.

The memories are while awake. I "remember" things that have never happened and forget them instantly and then a little later I remember something else, etc...

This is my second pregnancy, it's been very stress-free.
My first pregnancy was horrible but I never experienced anything like that

Hey OP, not something I've experienced and I've not spoken to anyone who has exactly the same thing but I know sometimes brains go a bit wild in pregnancy.

I'd suggest that you should just touch base with your GP and/or midwife to check in and let them know what you're experiencing. Especially if it continues over the next few days or week.

Do you suffer with OCD or have you in the past?Sometimes irrational, unwanted thoughts, memories or images that don't make sense but keep coming back can be a symptom although as it's only happened today it's a big leap to assume that's the case for you.

If the memories are distressing images, consider reaching out sooner so they can monitor things.

What sort of memories are you expecting? Can you give an example? Are they neutral, positive or negative? Also do you get a strong intuition? Or ever stumbled across a spiritual path (not religion) but like energy the universe and stuff? Some people can tune into stuff and chanel something that isn't theirs. Or not from this life. But again many don't believe this stuff so it a bit out there to comment just curious as it could give comfort if your open minded lol. Or it could be as simple as your brain and chemicals will be all over and the phyce is so strong its crazy. The way our brains work and feed us information and make sense of things is insane.

If I'm tired I have flashbacks to dreams from the night before- could it be that? I find it quite pleasant

It's most likely that you're remembering dreams. It's happened to me a few times prepregnancy when I've had to ask someone if a conversation or something actually happened or if it was a dream.

Given that it's a fleeting memory, my best guess would be that you're having vivid dreams and you're having memory flashes of them.

It's definitely worth mentioning to the midwife/gp though.
