So so tired!

I’m 9 and a bit weeks. I’m absolutely exhausted. I can’t stay awake. By lunchtime every day my eyes are burning with tiredness. I’m constantly falling asleep during the day. DH has suggested I have some time off work as I am struggling. Was desperate last week and asked for an iron test which was fine.

Is this a 9 week thing?! Will it improve?

It’s normal!!

momsybear · 26/11/2023 16:10

Normal- it gets better. I used to sit in a shopping centre with my sunglasses on so I could grab a catnap at lunchtime. Think I felt better by about 14 weeks- still tired but I could get through the day

It’s normal, 8-9 weeks was the worst for me, it was getting better by the 12 week scan and I’m much more energetic in the second trimester. If you’re too exhausted to work you can take sick leave for this, it should go down as pregnancy related sickness so wouldn’t go on your record. Or is there any possibility you can take a couple of holiday days?

I'm 9 weeks 4 days. Around the time I hit 9 weeks, I think I was setting records for sleep, between Thursday and this morning, I've probably been up about 8 hrs in total and slept the rest of the time. Had a child free weekend so took full advantage of it and it's been better today, but I've literally been getting up, eating then going back to bed. It is easing a tad.

glasspaw · 26/11/2023 19:20

Totally normal. With my first it eased after 13 weeks. I’m 26 weeks pregnant with my second now and it doesn’t seem to have gone away but I think that’s probably got more to do with parenting an almost 2 year old whilst also trying to maintain my career 🤣

Blueskiesforecast · 26/11/2023 19:21

Normal and it ends. By 2nd trimester I had tons pf energy.

Emsxox · 26/11/2023 20:34

Unfortunately it’s normal first trimester tiredness, in a few weeks you’ll have tons more energy xx

Duckling89 · 26/11/2023 20:40

You basically just have to prioritise yourself and rest until you get through it, it will ease off. Your husband will have to take on more chores/cooking etc or just leave it, don’t finish work and start cleaning/ironing/cooking big meals! I was in bed by 7pm most nights of the first trimester and napping at lunch, luckily wfh. It does get better.

Totally normal! All forgotten about when the baby arrives and true sleep deprivation hits.

SiennaMillar · 26/11/2023 20:50

You’re at the peak, and hopefully the tiredness will drop dramatically in a couple of weeks. I woke up at about 10.5 weeks, and was completely fine. Luckily - as this sudden surge in energy coincided with returning to work! I was going from bed to sofa to bed from week 5 to week 10.

Thank you everyone. This is my 7th pregnancy but a gap between DS and this one. Don’t remember being this tired! Maybe I’d blocked it out!! X

Yeah, first trimester is the worst... I'm almost 39 weeks now and I'm tired and sore but it's still not as bad as the exhaustion in the first trimester. It started improving at around week 12 for me (with DC1 and now with this pregnancy) - I stayed more tired this time around until I was prescribed iron tablets but if that's been checked you might not need that. I'm still working until 39 weeks, but I had weeks 8-11 off in my first pregnancy and weeks 9-11 off this time around.
