Freaking out - could my anti anxiety + depression meds giving me a false positive?

I'm on Rivotril/Klonopin, Escitalopram and Ritalin.

I just did 3 tests from different brands, they're all instantly positive and the clearblue one says 3+ weeks, that means that if this is true I got pregnant less than week (mere days) after my period, is that even possible?

Now I'm also reading these meds could cause birth defects, but obviously I need them for my mental health. Right now I'm quitting them and staying calm until I have absolute proof, but my gyn won't see me for another 5 days.

Is it possible this is a false positive or no?

Thank you to anyone who responds <3

Ive never heard of it. I'm not sure you should be suddenly stopping your meds though.

liliii · 25/11/2023 13:34

Maybe you're right about not stopping right away but I am so scared of harming this potential baby even though Idk what and how I'm going to go on from here...

Escitalopram is Lexapro btw

I think 3 clear blue digitals saying 3+ weeks is proof enough surely... I agree with abruptly stopping meds, that's up to the gp to decide. Get booked in asap
Are you in the uk? As I noticed you saying you have a gynea

losingthe · 25/11/2023 14:19

Sorry I misread and thought you meant three clear blues. But still, that's 3 positive tests so I think you can safely say you're pregnant op. Congrats.
Also, you can ovulate early in your cycles so yes it's definitely possible

Also my T line is almost darker than the C line, and shows up instantly. Isn't that weird at 3/4 weeks?

Could just be high hcg ! Or twins !

liliii · 25/11/2023 15:49

The top one I took just now after drinking A LOT, clear pee. Still almost darker than the C line. And my last period definitely wasn't more than 4 weeks ago....

Now I'm reading about molar pregnancies and downs syndrome... driving myself crazy haha.

Your last period might not have been a real period though OP

Stop googling, speak to, on the phone if you have to, someone in charge of your meds asap.

Put down Google, no good comes of it.

LizzeyBenett · 25/11/2023 16:06

I'm not 100% sure but I freaked all the way out when I got my positive as I had started Ivf meds two days prior and was absolutely convinced it was a false positive ... it wasn't .... I have since been told by a few doctors and nurses that false positives are extremely extremely rare.

I've had no pregnancy symptoms whatsoever though. But yeah I will get in touch with my doctors asap, it'll only be after the weekend though... But you're right! I should stop using google rn. Thank you

I just want to reassure you with my previous pregnancy to which I have an almost 4 year old perfectly healthy son I was on max dosage of citalopram which is close to escititalopram and these are the safer antidepressants you can take in pregnancy. Still contact your health professional but I am 14 weeks pregnant now and on maximum dosage of sertraline. They won't allow me to reduce my meds due to my mental illness so I'm quite confident you and baby will be fine and they won't abruptly stop your meds. They may switch or reduce but it's your mental health that's important here. Pleas don't let your anxiety take a hold over you. X

Thanks for the well wishes. Part of me is just in disbelief, combined with the unusually dark pregnancy test, I feel like either I have a cyst, a HCG producing tumor of some kind, a birth defect of ectopic/molar pregnancy.

And if it is actually true, the 25% chance of a miscarriage.

This is going to be a hell of a stressful time for me. 😅

Given the medication issue I would call 111 for advice on whether you should stop or continue

LividMush · 25/11/2023 17:48

I have twice had a “period” and been pregnant.

One of the times I had a baby, the other an ectopic pregnancy.

You will be however far you would’ve been had you not had the “period”.

I’d keep on your meds until told otherwise, and get some proper medical advice. Good luck.
