Hi this is my second pay of maternity pay since going off, but it is £200 lower this month. I'm confused as I thought maternity was worked out a set amount for the 6 months.
Can somebody help me

Statutory maternity pay is 90% of your salary for the first six weeks. Thereafter it's SMP for the next 33 weeks - about £172pw.

If you work for a large company/public sector you may receive enhanced maternity pay. We offer 6 months full pay for example.

Hi yes it's only my second payment I went on maternity in September so have only recieved one pay before and second payment now, so should be at its a highest at the moment but I'm 200 lower on second payment.

What is your maternity package?

If it's 90% for 6 weeks then down to SMP then you would expect your 2nd month to be less because 2 weeks (ish) of that 2nd month is SMP.

This is all dependant on your job, salary and entitlement to maternity pay. Are you receiving statutory maternity pay or company maternity pay? What is the company policy?

As above, if you've got a basic package then your pay will go down in the second month as the highest rate is only for 6 weeks.
Then it will remain pretty consistent until up to 9 months where you then get nothing for the last 12 weeks.

Also depends how you company pay you. Mine pay 2 weeks ahead and 2 in arrears

PointyMcguire · 23/11/2023 09:00

Mine fluctuated during the enhanced part as I was paid based on weeks in the month rather than my monthly salary as I’d first assumed. It just meant I got a bumper pay packet on the 5 week months.
