I had terrible heartburn when I was pg, went to docs and he gave me a script for a big bottle of Gaviscon! Suggest you do the same

Paranoid1stTimer · 12/03/2008 15:28

Gaviscon! I LOVE YOU!!!! Honestly I would not survive this pregnancy if it weren't for Gaviscon!!!!

Katelyn · 12/03/2008 15:32

Gaviscon and milk helped me ...

Good luck!

izzybiz · 12/03/2008 15:36

Gaviscon tablets worked for me, I suffered with horrendous heartburn with my first two (both extremely hairy!) Am getting ready for it again this time!

jenpet · 12/03/2008 15:48

biglips I sympathise. With DS1 I suffered from about 5 months with it, but somehow I figured it was 10 times worse if I ate tomatoes in any form - pasta sauce, soup, even ketchup, once I cut anything tomato-ey out it was a lot better, but would confirm Gaviscon works too (am waiting for it to kick in any day!)

Maybe look at what you're eating - strong flavours are a no-no for me, as is eating too late.
Yes, Gaviscon is WONDERFUL but after being given a huge bottle I asked doc for tablets which I could carry round with me. IMO they worked much better than the liquid. I always take two at bedtime and that does the trick.

landj · 12/03/2008 16:17

Starlightmc, why not sugarfree rennies? Im probably being thick but now Im scared! Took them through second pregnancy, me and dd fine,I wasnt poisoning her was I????
Biglips, keep bottle Gaviscon by your bed. You'll start off taking measured dose by spoon, then by 30 weeks you'll just swig it straight from bottle. (Nice when bottle top starts getting dry and crusty)
I used to like McDonalds strawberry milkshake to soothe acid too, convinced myself it contained milk so must be good for baby!

LOL know what you mean!! The minty one more than the anaseed...think its the colour! Funny, you can happily swig it when you are pregnant, but not even bare to smell it normally! Biglips really pity you the heartburn is sooooo nasty! Especially when it wakes you in the early hours. Maybe its your body preparing you for midnight feeds ha ha. ALSO, I suffered with both my pregnancies, and had 2 VERY hairy babies!!!

We called my DS Mogli (as in jungle book) when he was first born. Not only hairy ears, shoulders and back but his hair line was terrible, started just above his eyebrows!

ca7439 · 12/03/2008 17:12

Biglips
I can sympathise I was on the gaviscon. Go to gp and get prescription for big bottle then it's free cos otherwise you will spend a fortune!!
Also, it it keeps you awake at night, lots of extra pillows, I found lying down made it lots worse.
then try to work out what things make it worse. For me, anything spicy, too much sugar - e.g. cake with lots of icing also any thing too acid e.g. fruit juice, oranges....
Sounds like you will have a boring preg eating bland food...!!! But you honestly won't.
I could still eat tons of domino's pizza - i craved it constantly!! Also, the second baby is born it goes away and you can eat what the hell you want!!
good luck
xx

ca7439 · 12/03/2008 17:13

PS
My kids were not hairy ...

landj · 12/03/2008 17:21

Surely that hairiness link to indigestion is only an old wives tale or is it a mediacally proven fact? Definately cut out the orange juice. I was unlucky and craved lime cordial (neat) which really didn't help! Yep, lots of pillows, get used to sleeping sitting up!

Bouncingturtle · 12/03/2008 18:37

Look at my pix on my profile and decide for yourself

Seabright · 12/03/2008 18:53

Rennies are fine, it says on the packet they are fine to take if pregnant.

izzybiz · 12/03/2008 19:00

I have pics of my hairy heartburn baby too

biglips · 14/03/2008 09:26
