Hi

looking to get pregnant in the near future and I am really paranoid that my IBS symptoms will be so much worse during pregnancy and that I won’t be able to control gas at all in embarrassing moments (like at work!) - I have enough tummy troubles as it is and have read that when pregnant irs harder to control gas so I’m panicking a bit now! Is it really that bad and does it last the whole time ?

@Hann376 mine has been so much better during pregnancy so it won't necessarily be worse at all

The gas I had didn't come till the 3rd trimester and has been very mild, my bowels have been a lot more consistent and settled and I've had way less bloating

How do you normally control your ibs? I follow a low fodmap diet and this really helps in general... you can do the same during pregnancy but what I'm saying is it might not get worse at all

Its really hard to know how you'll react.
I'm 6 weeks.
I have ibs too and I personally have had severely painful gas that you just can't release now matter how hard you try. It was excruciating. I had it from week 4-5 but its eased off now and I feel fine.
If anything I feel tho my pregnancy has helped my ibs. I used to have runs all the time and would go to loo a lot but now I go once a day and it's more constipated than anything but I find this takes alot of the issues associated with runs for me away

Same. I didn’t have any IBS symptoms during pregnancy (not even morning sickness).

Your body and hormones change so much during pregnancy that it’s very difficult to predict how you’ll react -you might be fine, but unfortunately symptoms could be worse

Currently 39 weeks so nearing the end of pregnancy. It will be different for every individual but my IBS only caused an issue very early on from weeks 5-8.
i had extremely painful trapped gas, to the point that I thought I might pass out when trying to go to the toilet. It was awful, but then all of a sudden my body must have adjusted and my stomach has been better than usual ever since!

My ibs was fine during pregnancy but following birth (labouring to 9cm and then emergency c section) it has gotten significantly worse to the extent I havnt made it to the bathroom. Problems are pain and urgency as well as stool quality. I'm hoping it gets better soon as its incredibly depressing
