Small head, large abdomen?

Hi just looking for reassurance from anyone that might have experience with their baby's head circumference measuring very small (under 3rd centile) and abdominal circumference measuring super big (97th centile). The consultant didn't mention anything being wrong other than the tummy being very big - I noticed it on the report afterwards. Have to wait 2 weeks until my next growth scan, diabetes test came back normal. Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and how did it turn out? I'm 34 weeks btw! TIA!

My growth scan at 36 weeks showed
baby had a tummy in 97th percentile.
As diabetes test came back normal, nobody seemed to have any concerns at all. My midwife thinks it’s probably just that she had gulped down a lot of fluid that day.
39 weeks now and waiting to see what size the baby will really be like when she arrives!

I vaguely remember something similar at one of my scans, where it seemed baby would have weird proportions and I was wondering what it all meant!

Baby was born looking completely normal and has been ever since 😂

@Ladybuglamp Thank you for replying! Will be interesting to see what the next growth scan shows, hopefully things are more level. Best of luck with your new arrival! Could be any day for you now, so exciting!

@Whiskerson Thank you that's definitely reassuring to hear!

Hi ladies, just adding to an old post but keen for some advice please as above was helpful. First pregnancy at aged 40, all seemed to be ticking along ok until 30 week scan when head had dropped from 39% to 7%, abdomen up to 65% and femur down to 2%.
Due to earlier complications we had an amnio and two NIPTs which all came back negative/low risk. Inevitably Googling the crap out of it which isn’t helping… please could I have some thoughts as to what might be going on, advice or any similar experiences. Next growth scan booked in for a couple of weeks‘ time. Thank you

@EttaCat My LO arrived in December and was absolutely fine - perfectly in proportion with no health issues. He was a chunky boy as I expected, probably just a bit short like my DH and I! His head and weight are still only on the 12th centile but he definitely looks a lot bigger than that 😂 I was in tears after those scans, but really had nothing to worry about, so try not to panic

Just to add - I had a different consultant at my next appointment and she wasn't concerned in the slightest about the measurements, as he was still within normal ranges. The main reason I got referred was due to possible complications with my birth as his tummy was big, but 65th centile wouldn't be a worry I wouldn't think.

I had growth scans every 2 weeks throughout my pregnancy, and all of them had what seemed like disproportionate measurements and no one seemed concerned and baby was born perfectly normal size.

I did ask the sonographer about it, and he told me that some of the centile data they now use is out of date, and they rarely see abdomens below the 50th (seems mad!) but don’t have this with head/femur so all babies can seem out of proportion. They also get less accurate further into pregnancy as it’s harder for them to get the measurements. He told me to just ignore those parts of the scan report and if it was anything to be concerned about the consultant would raise it immediately

Thank you so much @PeopleAreToads and @Charlielechat . I’ve heard anecdotally that these measurements can be inaccurate (consultant also told us that) but your mind still spirals when the numbers are there in front of you in black and white… 😫
