Maternity pay

Hi,

I am writing this in a bit of a predicament. I have just found out I am pregnant- happy accident- (I guess). I’ve worked out I will be due maybe first week of august 2024. I have only been in my current employment for 6 months. On my contract it says that I will not be supported with maternity pay for two years as I am in a nurse apprenticeship with them and the apprenticeship is two years. I am in the UK.

what are my options? Will I be left with no money? Am I entitled to SMP or will I have to apply for maternity allowance? And is there a chance that if I apply for maternity allowance that it will be rejected? Will I be able to take annual leave and be accepted for maternity allowance also? As this could be an option for me!

many thanks

I'm pretty sure apprentices have the same rights as employees here. You worked there before getting pregnant so you're entitled to SMP.

It probably means you won’t be able to claim the enhanced May pay, will they pause your apprenticeship?
