Query Back to Back

Have been for my 38 week appointment today and midwife suggested baby was back to back with me (this would be a change in position for her).

I'm having growth scans (have another on Monday), baby has always been in the opposite position so facing towards my spine. To me babies movements have not changed at all and I think I can still feel her bum at the front. I have also not felt any nog movements. Midwife didn't have a particularly good feel, her heart was quite but again she was checking in a different position to every other appointment.

Feeling quite stressed now as I've heard from friends that a back to back delivery is far longer, more painful and more likely to end in interventions. Any idea how I would know if she is in this position without paying for an additional scan?

I should have stayed and asked more questions but she had an absolutely stinking cold and I just wanted to avoid getting that as well. Thanks

My second was back to back, 2 hour labour with no pain relief (not even gas and air). It was amazing, I couldn’t have wished for more

DC2 was back to back. I didn't find out until labour. I didn't received any pain relief because from first twinge to birth was 40 minutes. Everyone is different.

Most back to back babies move into the correct position during labour. That said, I delivered back to back as a water birth with g and a, not too bad. Try not to worry.

Both mine were back to back. Quite fast labours. Only gas and air.

My second came out back to back. Honestly don't think it was any worse than the ones who came out the right way round. I maybe had to push a little longer but it was still a fast labour.

Due this week with number 4 and they are back to back (so scan tells me anyway) so just waiting to see which way they decide to make their entrance!

Thank you very much ladies. This is all very reassuring. I have read that only 5-8% of babies are born Back to Back as most turn during labour.

As luck would have it toddler had HV today and HV used to be a midwife. She had a feel and said her position seemed fine, but even if she is back to back I feel more confident after reading about your experiences x
