C-section with head cold

I am 39 + 2 and am scheduled for an elective c section tomorrow (had c section with first baby due to failed induction so opted for one again this time). My 3 year old has been mildly sick the last few days with a cold and this morning I woke up sneezing with a sore throat and slightly sniffly nose. Seeing midwife later today so will see what she says and take a covid test but do you think they will postpone me given it’s elective and should I worry about getting the baby sick if it goes ahead tomorrow. I am planning to breastfeed but my milk took awhile to come in last time and baby started off on some formula - so might not get the immediate protection from breastmilk.

Take the medical advice and do what is best for you and your baby.

I wouldn't want to be coughing and sneezing a lot after a C-section.

I was worried about this as have been coming down with colds etc. According to my online searches they seem to go ahead with it but obviously you’re bet to find out from midwife

I had a cold when I had mine, went ahead anyway, no issue. Wasn’t ideal but was the last thing on my mind really. Absolutely no question of it being postponed (was also 39+) even though it was elective due to past delivery complications not an acute reason.

I had an awful cough with my second. Operation went well but laying down so much lead to a chest infection on day 4 (much panicking by DH and GP that I had sepsis, but all was well). However DS did get RSV at 10 days old and had to be admitted back into hospital for a week through A&E. Tbh there isn't much you can do at this stage and this is very much RSV season, just be very aware of the symptoms. It will be fine. Hold a pillow over your scar if you cough or sneeze and press down.

I had a Covid cough during my elective c section. They said they just carry on as normal when I queried if it was still okay to go ahead. I was given codeine as a cough suppressant after. They told me to tell them when I needed to cough during the c section so they could pause. It wasn't great recovering with the cough, but managable.

Also baby didn’t catch it as I breastfed.

I'd a cold when I had mine and there where no issues. Bar the coughing and sneezing with the wound. Brace your stomach with a pillow and it helps to stop it feeling like your insides will fall out
