6 week scan

I went for an early scan today at 6+6 from LMP but baby is measuring 6 weeks exactly, we seen the heartbeat but they want to rescan again in a week. She said the heartbeat was going from perfect to then a bit slower and then back to perfect. Has anyone had this before?

@Firstbaby1234 Only found out yesterday that I’m expecting and booked a 6 week scan this morning for when I’ll be 6 + 1 ( 19th Nov) from MSP. Hope everything is good for you and will be checking in on this feed x

@Thenatcheshire congratulations!! I hope all goes well for you! Our next scan is on the 19th November too! They have put on the report “a single live intrauterine pregnancy with an intermittent feral cardiac activity” it’s going to be a long week waiting!

LMP calculation isn't always accurate for the fetal age because people ovulate at different points in their cycle. If you tracked ovulation there there would be a more accurate window but 6 days could be a normal variance so please don't be too worried. You will see other posts about people measuring behind but then main thing is that growth continues which is why they will call you back in. At 6 weeks some people dont see a heartbeat.

I had a scan at 7 weeks (IVF pregnancy so know the extra date and that it was a day 5 embryo) and they checked for a heartbeat but didn't measure the rate or focus on it for long enough to check if it was consistent so although I know it sounds a worry please don't let it be.

I also went to EPU due to some bleeding today (7 weeks 4 days) and again they didn't measure heartbeat or have it on the screen long enough to see if there was an irregular pattern.

Good luck, it will feel like a long week but try to be positive as trust me the dread and worry just makes it go slower and feel hellish

My baby had a slow heart rate for gestation at around the same so I had another scan 2w later and all fine. Said baby is now a healthy 8yo!

Sorry to add - Just to give perspective based on a 28 day cycle NHS is saying I'm 7 weeks from my LMP (know for a fact I'm 7 weeks and 4 days), I had a 5 day embryo transferred on day 12 of my cycle. Most people don't ovulate until day 12 onwards and have to grow that embryo from scratch, my latest ovulation was day 19, had to check this for previous fertility treatment so 6 days can easily be misread this early on. @ttcsolomumtobe thank you, I’m not too worried about measuring a couple of days behind, it’s more the heartbeat I’m worried about. I suppose the main factor is that there was a heartbeat and we all seen it! She didn’t say it was slow she said it was perfect but then when she came back to it she said it had slowed down a bit and then it went perfect again. She said it’s because I’m early and she see’s it between 6-7 weeks but it’s still a worry x

@DottyMacaroon thats so good to hear! I hope it was just because I’m so early and everything is so small at that point.

Can I ask where you had these scans? I’ve had a couple of weeks private ones so far but at both (7 weeks and 9 weeks) they refused to assess heart rate :/

I’ve gone back and checked and HR was 116bpm @ 6w 6d. So quite low.

@DottyMacaroon they didn’t tell me how many bpm, just that one minute it was perfect how it should be then the next a bit slower then she went to check again a few minutes later and it was perfect.. just going to have a long wait until next Sunday!
