ICP High risk??? Maternity notes

Hi all,

Im 25 weeks pregnant and just had my midwife appointment today, I’ve just got home and reading my notes and all of them since by booking in appointment say ICP - High risk (they’ve ticked the box)

Im really worried now and do not understand what it means?! The ONLY higher risk thing I can think of is that I take Sertraline for anxiety 50mg. Everything else in my pregnancy has been absolutely perfect and I’m low risk for everything.

can anyone tell me what ICP means? Google says a liver condition that causes itching but I don’t have that!!!

Just a guess but I would assume that means you are at higher risk of developing ICP, rather than you have it. What ethnicity are you? It is more common in non-caucasian women.

You should ask at your next appointment

I’m Caucasian, it’s so odd!!
I don’t have any risk factors for ICP

It’s probably ‘individualised care pathway’ and just means you’re on a ‘high risk’ pathway which could be a million things from medical issues to needing a C section to just needing a consultant involved for something that won’t affect your birth at all :)

They might put you on an enhanced care pathway for anxiety, just to support you mental health wise :)

it might be because sertraline can cause increased bleeding at birth and you and your baby may be kept in for extra monitoring to check that baby is coping with withdrawal from sertraline after delivery.

There are so many things that can put you on a "high risk" ICP. For me it was a combination of maternal age (40), one prior low-birthweight baby (who was the smaller of term twins and only 3oz under the threshold for low birthweight, and is a strapping teenager now), and previous use of an SSRI (nothing to do with pregnancy or kids).

Don't worry about it. It just means an extra midwife appointment or two, and possibly a check over by a consultant. It won't materially change anything at all.

Thanks all for the suggestions - you have put my mind at ease. I think its something to do with the Sertraline as I was ticked as 'high risk' for ICP since my booking appointment.

I'll have to ask midwife at my next appointment
