I had two children at nearly 37 and then 39. My first pregnancy was hard and I had preeclampsia but no problems with the second and both babies were small but healthy. They are now 9 and 13. What would you like to know? 😊

I had DC1 at 37. Had an easy pregnancy, easy birth on gas & air about 5 after arriving at hospital having laboured at home overnight.

DC2 was born just before I was 43. I was induced on her due date due to my age. Five hours later she arrived fast and furious, again on gas & air, and DH almost missed it because it happened so quick. Took longer to stitch me up.

I was 37 and my pregnancy was pretty straight forward other than gestational diabetes which in turn led to elective c section to avoid a drawn out induction process as it was recommended DS arrived before 39 weeks.

I'll soon be 40 and I've resigned myself to the fact there won't be number 2 at this rate, not sure I can keep trying in good conscience when I already have a healthy ds.

Good luck in your pregnancy/future pregnancy op. On a side note, has anyone noticed the sheer number of "older mum" posts recently? Seems to have really ramped up lately since the birth of VCM baby

Scouse51976 · 07/11/2023 06:54

Had my first baby at 39, and it was a bit nerve-wracking, but it all worked out okay. Just stay positive and take care of yourself.

DappledThings · 07/11/2023 06:55

I had mine at 36 and 38. Didn't feel particularly old. It was all very straightforward.

Angelsrose · 07/11/2023 08:27

@hellohellothere what does VCM baby mean?

Sa11yCinnamon · 07/11/2023 11:14

38 now and will be 39 when I give birth to my first.

ReadyForPumpkins · 07/11/2023 11:30

My two were born when I was 36 and 39. DC2 born a month before I turn 40! We tried for 2 years for DC2 with a MMC and a MC, but without any fertility treatment. I was on the verge of giving up TTC for DC2 but it happened. We decided then that we already had one so we'll save the fertility treatment for DC1 instead.

If you have been TTC for a while, go and get tested. Do temperature and ovluation sticks. Get everything that can help.

Quickredfox · 07/11/2023 11:31

I was 38 and the youngest on the delivery ward. Don’t worry about it too much.

ReadyForPumpkins · 07/11/2023 11:31

VCM is Victoria Coren Mitchell. She's using donor eggs I'm guessing.

Bex4567 · 01/12/2023 17:23

How long did it take you all currently on month 5 activity trying ...no bfp yet giving up hope am 37 and have a 17 and 13 year old

PartTimePartyPooper · 01/12/2023 17:27

I think you need to accept your fertility/your partner’s may not be as good as ten years ago so don’t get hopes up too high. I got pregnant in early 40s after a gap since my older dc and all went perfectly smoothly, but I promised myself if it didn’t happen I would stop try at a fixed moment in time.

Bex4567 · 02/12/2023 00:03

Domt get my hopes up 🤦‍♀️thanks lol

toomanyleggings · 02/12/2023 00:15

I had one at 37. Easy to get pregnant but miscarried at 11 weeks. Pregnant again straight afterwards. I was similarly fertile at 29. My mum had her last at 41. Everyone’s different though in terms of fertility

Sunny1986 · 02/12/2023 00:20

I turn 37 this month and Just found out I'm pregnant with no.2. Got a 2 year old boy too. Very uncomplicated pregnancy and birth with him, had a miscarriage this time last year so vvvvvery cautiously excited about this pregnancy

flowerchild2000 · 02/12/2023 00:29

I'm 41, had a baby at 40. 12 year gap between my youngest! No fertility issues, just mainly single for a long time. Age didn't affect me in any way except I was forced into an early induction that went horribly and ended with an emergency section. Baby just wasn't ready to come yet. I feel stupid for going along with it now, but I felt I had to acquiesce to the "experts". I understand late induction but early is just batshit crazy. Anyway, it was all fine and baby is now a vivacious 17mo, very happy and healthy. Don't be afraid to stand up for yourself. This was my 3rd birth but even then I let them bully me. Don't worry about age either, if you can get pregnant you can handle pregnancy and birth just fine. I'd honestly love to have another!

Bex4567 · 02/12/2023 21:57

I had one at 38 and one at 41. I had pretty problem free pregnancies, a little bleeding with the first early on but straightforward vaginal births, with an epidural with the first and ventouse delivery but no other issues (he got stuck because he stuck his arm out!). The second was a three hour delivery with no pain meds or epidural.

I've had no particular post partum issues but I do lots of pilates which I think has helped ward off any pelvic floor issues (I'm very ancient now...😂)

I worked up until 34 weeks with the first, can't remember with the second. Have you any specific questions?
