Fraternal twins 5+2 help.

Hi, so I went for an early scan today to rule out Ectopic as I ruptured with one in 2022. They can see 2 sacs, one starting to develop a yolk whilst the other is still empty. They said it's too early to know if one will develop or is just a tiny bit behind and I have a rescan in 12 days.
Until then I was wondering if anyone had been in this position before and the outcome? X

I had fraternal twins and one was always bigger than the other, even at the 7 week scan. I can imagine that at 5 weeks it’s possible one would have been visible and one not. Because fraternal twins come from two eggs (this means two separate ovulations) there can be a few to several days between fertilisation of the eggs, thus the fetus’s can be a week or so apart.

Or they might be different sizes. At birth there was a lb between my fraternal twin boys. even now at 14 one is a foot taller than the other 😁

It’s really hard to wait but hang in there !

Congratulations on twins ☺️ 12 days is going to seem like forever 😅 they said they could do 7 days but my partner just can't get the time off work again at short notice to watch the other children

Hey, I am in a similar situation. I went for an early scan last week at 6+2 and got the below:

It is a twin pregnancy. Yolk sacs and fetal poles seen. T1 is 6 mm with fetal heart pulsations seen. T2 is 3 mm , however no fetal heart pulsations seen. The appearances are inconclusive.
Advised to have a rescan in 7 days to assess T2 viability.

This was on Tuesday last week and I have rescan on Friday this week!

Fingers crossed for our smaller babies! Let's stay in touch 👶🏻 x

Fingers crossed for you ❤️ deffo stay in touch. Did the doctors give any positive explanation for this or were they preparing for the worst? x
I was told that if they scan I had today happened tomorrow I could've seen 2 yolks, they said a day makes a huge difference and baby could be a tiny bit behind as the 1 yolk we did see was "faint" and only just visible x

Mine was at a private scan so it wasn't a doctor but the lady said it was probably just too early. I did lots of crazy googling on the sizes etc and figured out they were measuring 6 days apart which as the pp said it's totally possible with two eggs being fertilised at different times.
I have felt worse and worse with each day that passes so I'm hoping it's a good sign that they're both cooking 🤞🏻
I'll let you know how I get on. Good luck with yours too! X

I hope you both get good news.

Sealover123 · 06/11/2023 18:21

I am surprised they scanned you so early. I had a previous ectopic and EPU scanned me at 7+1. Twins as well! Congratulations and hopefully more can been seen in a couple weeks xx

Thank you 😊 I was getting pains but ended up as a UTI but because my HCG was coming in at 5k + they agreed to double check with a scan x

I had a previous ectopic and was scanned at 5+3 to check location. I think it just depends on the EPU. My ectopic ruptured at 7+3. The yolk sac of my current pregnancy could be seen at the 5+3 scan.

Haven't been in your position twin wise OP but hopefully one twin is just from a later ovulation and your next scan will show you them both. How far gone will you be at the next scan?

pinkmarshmalloww · 06/11/2023 20:16

@DemelzaRobins I will be 7 weeks exactly on that day 🙂 I'm 5+2 today and they said both the sacs measured approx 5 weeks x

Oh I almost don't want to share my experience now but this happened to me and the outcome was not what I hoped for.

T1 was measuring as expected, had a clear heartbeat, however T2 had no heartbeat and was much smaller. This was at 6+2.

Less than a week later, I had quite a big bleed - had a scan and sadly they could no longer see T2. T1 was fine though.

Fingers crossed for you - it's great news that both of yours measuring the same (T2 for me was always obviously behind gestation wise) you are also so early it is perfectly plausible they were not able to see much in one of the sacs at this stage.

pinkmarshmalloww · 07/11/2023 20:29

I've just had a bleed. I'm terrified 😭

cherryscola · 08/11/2023 10:50

it's not uncommon to have bleeds/spotting in the first trimester.

How are things this morning?

pinkmarshmalloww · 08/11/2023 13:54

@cherryscola that was the only bleed I had, after that it was pale pink whilst wiping while it all vanished. Todays been clear. Scans been bought forward to Monday 13th rather than the following Saturday

I'm keeping you in my thoughts@pinkmarshmalloww
Hope you get good news at the scan.

cherryscola · 08/11/2023 14:43

@pinkmarshmalloww that's great news that it stopped. When I had mine it was a huge gush and it continued for days, in varying degrees. I knew deep down what had happened.

I hope your scan goes well and no more bleeding!

KMM87 · 10/11/2023 17:10

I went back for my second scan today and there were two little babies with heartbeats. Both have grown in proportion to the last scan 10 days ago. Hope all goes well for you on your next scan x

MyBedIsMySpiritualHome · 10/11/2023 17:56

Oh, amazing news @KMM87 !!!

TheShellBeach · 10/11/2023 18:00

That's lovely@KMM87

pinkmarshmalloww · 10/11/2023 21:41

Congrats @KMM87 that's great news ☺️

I started spotting again through the night but nothing that required a pad and was very pale pink. Ive been clear since the first small bleed on Tuesday. It's all gone again now.
Very crampy this evening and so paranoid 😩
Scan on Monday x

KMM87 · 11/11/2023 07:30

@pinkmarshmalloww I know it's hard not to panic but try and stay positive. I've had some cramping this week too and for sure thought the worst. I hope everything goes well for you on Monday 🤍🤍

MyBedIsMySpiritualHome · 15/11/2023 15:50

@pinkmarshmalloww

How did the scan go? I hope it was ok x

TheShellBeach · 15/11/2023 15:52

I do hope you're okay, OP.

pinkmarshmalloww · 15/11/2023 19:49

Thank you for checking in ☺️
I had my scan done and the 2nd empty gestational sac has now disappeared. But we do have one tiny baby with a heartbeat ☺️ I've so far had no further bleeding x
