Hi Guys,

I am 34 weeks 5 days pregnant and im rh negative and baby is predicted positive. yesterday evening i stumbled up the stairs where i worked, i didn't fall on my bump or hit the stairs but what i did do was as i was falling to balance myself i put my leg on a higher step and which made me fall forward and squish my bump between my leg .... at the time there was a small bit of pain but nothing after it is slightly tender this morning. i called the hospital and waited for a call back from them but they said i didnt need anti-d which i thought was very strange. I've recently switched hospitals and the first hospital i was at were extremely cautions and would make me get anti-d over small things (i have had this injection 4 times this pregnancy already) but this new hospital seem a lot more relaxed about it.
would you guys think this would warrant another injection ??
(repost as i need advice on how i should go about hospitals advice)

thanks in advance
worried mom to be !!

It doesnt sound like a situation requiring anti d. Is it not more required if you badly bump your tummy or fall on it?

Shopper727 · 03/11/2023 17:43

Usually the prophylactic doses cover you, I am negative to and bled a lot in pregnancy and I got one early on then whatever you’d normally get. If you have concerns re baby phone in for advice but my (4) babies were all fine and I bled through each pregnancy, I also fell hitting bump with the first and still got only the 2 doses at the time.

pregnantmom101 · 03/11/2023 17:45

yeah its supposed to be given if you bump your tummy or fell onto it i just find it strange the last hospital i was at would give it over very small bumps but this hospital are very laid back about it imo , my take on it was i practically fell on my leg if that makes sense... maybe it wasnt bad enough to cause a bleed i know im too far along for it to cause any harm if i did happen to create anti bodies but if i ever wanted kids in the future the chances of something happening to the baby are very high.

so Shopper727 they didnt give you a dose after falling and hitting bump !! i would of thought they would give it for cases like that ?? im glad to hear all babies were healthy !! its just weird coming from one hospital who were overly cautious to one thats not im freaking out !!

I think you should speak to someone about how anxious you are feeling. It's not usual to have multiple injections for minor incidents. I had one when I fell in pregnancy and then the routine ones. Also had one after birth after the cord blood was tested so I assume my dcs are Rh+

pregnantmom101 · 03/11/2023 18:23

dementedpixie- yeah i am seeing a perinatal team which i find very helpful !! but what im wondering is would that be considered a fall i basically fell on my leg if that makes sense and squashed my bump... i dont know maybe im looking too much into it... what kind of fall did you have if you dont mind me asking ??

Perhaps just tell them your feeling super anxious about it and so would they agree to do a kleihauer test just in case?

I tripped and fell over onto the ground outside. Doesnt sound like your incident would have enough impact to cause any problems.

pregnantmom101 · 03/11/2023 18:29

Kats - they wont be able to do a test as i already have passive anti-d in my blood from previous injections and they cant tell the difference between them </3

It shouldn’t affect the kleihauer test as looks for fetal cells not anti D, however the kleihauer will only tell you if large FMH so generally more for calculating whether they need to give a larger than usual dose of anti D

Fellow Rh- pregnancy here, now 36 weeks. I've had 5 doses of anti-D due to bleeding.

Like you said, you have passive anti-D in your system from what they have given you that should cover anything small. Too much anti-D is also bad. If your passive levels from them giving you anti-D gets too high that can result in problems for baby. When you've already had a lot they have to balance giving you what's needed to mop anything up with you ending up with too much excess in your system and needing specialist scans etc to check it isn't affecting baby. I've not had some anti-D injections after some bleeds because of this.

those bloods i was talking about were taken about a month or so ago so hopefully there is still some floating around there since the 28 week dose is usually higher. did you have another injection after your routine dose??

My trust said to me it would have to be a significant trauma to the bump to need a anti-d injection. They equated it to a car accident.

I was always banging both bumps on car doors, internal doors, any corners that stuck out.
Both babies and me were all ok ❤️.

Rh neg here as well and i was given the same advice as above ^ I have a toddler and have been worrying about sharp elbows and knees to the bump. Midwife has told me unless its accompanied by bleeding, pain (more than just very mild) or bruising that i shouldnt worry. But she said if i am worried at any point to ring and discuss with the triage team.

Thank you ❤️ I know it’s sounds so stupid like I squished my bump but all that was going through my head was what if there was a bleed but I’m sure if there was a chance of a bleed the hospital would of asked me to come in thank you for your advice ❤️

Thank you so much for your advice ❤️ I just really needed to hear it from someone else I honestly thought the hospital were just brushing it off like it was nothing even though it could of caused a bleed !! Thank you ❤️

No, my last dose was my 28 week dose. I had 2 in week 19, one week 22, one week 23 and my usual at week 28. I also had episodes of bleeding at week 20 and 25 that were not treated with anti-D for a couple of reasons, one being due to the amount already in my system and I had negative kliehower tests. Safe to say I was on first name basis with many of the triage staff 😅.

I end up in all sorts of odd positions now trying to manouvere at 36 weeks. Getting out of cars is quite the squeeze, I catch myself on doors/handles and all sorts. I just forget how deep I am. Baby is very well protected in there. A slight squish is fine.

I thankfully haven't needed to have any more since. I just desperately want to get a bit further and have a healthy baby in my arms now!
