Bleeding at 15 weeks

Hi,

looking for advice or reassurance from someone that may have been through something similar. I’m now 15 weeks pregnant I had a bit of bleeding about a week ago. It was red, not a lot but went on all day. I went to my GP who did an examination and confirmed the bleeding. She immediately regretted me to the gynaecology triage at the hospital. There I had another examination and a swab. They confirmed cervix was still closed and so bleeding wasn’t coming from womb but sent me for a scan just in case. I had the scan and all is well - no sign of any issues (thank god!) However, in the following days I had a lot of dark brown discharge which I’m assuming is the old blood from the first bleed coming out. Today I have pinkish discharge so I’m worried it’s starting again! I just don’t know why it’s happening and where it’s coming from and the only answer I seem to get is, it’s just one of those things 🤷🏼‍♀️

I had this at 20 weeks to the point I bled so badly I had to be packed internally for an hour or so. Baby was born fine at 40+2 they said it was from Cervical ectopy. Which is where the womb lining grows outside the womb on the cervix and then those cells bleed.

I didn't get it again the rest of my pregnancy but was always worrying there would be something there when I went to the toilet. They told me it happens to approx 10% of women but I had never heard of it before. Perhaps it's that x

I had this at 14 weeks during my current pregnancy (now 25 weeks) and I also had it with my DS at around 16 weeks.

Both times I bled lightly and it was red / dark brown, and this time I had some pinky blood too. First pregnancy it stopped after 48 hours and this time I had it on and off for a week.

My pregnancy continued with DS all fine and he was born at 41 weeks. This pregnancy also seems to be progressing fine too so far. I had a scan this time which also showed baby was fine and bleeding wasn't coming from the womb (no internal check). With DS, it was COVID and was told it was just one of those things but had no further checks offered.

My midwife this time said it's actually very common to happen around that sort of time in pregnancy. It can be something to do with a shift in hormones when the placenta goes through the process of taking over x

Thank you - this is really reassuring. I had been ill the week before with what I thought was a really bad cold but could’ve been COVID to be fair so I wondered if that had had an impact. I’d heard about the shift in hormones too but thought that was earlier. I’m still having really light pink but fingers crossed it’ll stop soon!!

This hasn’t happened to me but I was told any bleeding in pregnancy should be checked out, so if it’s now changing to light pink ring 111 (or any midwife numbers you’ve been recommended) to seek formal advice :)
