Late miscarriage advice much needed

Last weekend i had a late miscarriage at 14 weeks

On the same day, they took a huge amount of bloods for testing. They said it was to try and understand why it happened.

Now doing research it seems like alot of the disorders can only be checked when the pregnancy hormone has left your body.

Did anyone else have these bloods done? What were they for?

I'm so anxious and upset waiting to find a potential answer and I thought this might be it.

The baby was fine and healthy. The issue was me.

@Lithgow2000 Didnt want to read and go - I dont have much advice by way of bloods, sorry!
But I had a late miscarriage at 19 weeks and baby was fine - it was me. I sent the placenta for testing and then had a debrief once the results were back.

Sending you lots of love xx

It could be to check if you have a clotting disorder - a thrombophilia?

This was my belief but people are telling me you can't check for blood disorders until after 6 weeks. Maybe some you can check quicker than that.

It was 15 whole tubes of blood they took. I was hoping i might find my answer 😞

@Lithgow2000 treatment like what? Bloods and stuff? I didnt, only bloods at the time that detected I had an infection so had antibiotics when I left hospital but other than that it was to wait the placenta report x

@Lithgow2000 oh yeah, once they were satisifed what it was (but sadly no reason/answers as to why ☹️) in my debrief with the hospital consultant I have a brief pregnancy plan which would be aspirin and progesterone throughout any subsequent pregnancies, regular monitoring and cervix checks x

So sorry for your loss. I had a late miscarriage last year at 17 weeks. They also took lots of bloods from me but no one really explained what for, ever. I looked on badger notes and still now it says all they took but not the results. The most I ever got told was that everything was normal. I had no idea that some things could only be tested for after hcg had left the body. If I'm being honest, as wonderful as everyone was at the time, no one knew what to do with me after the event and I sort of fell off their radar. I had no further checks afterwards.

I am now currently 28 weeks pregnant and they have given me extra care this time around. I was already on aspirin in my last pregnancy due to early gestational diabetes but instead of starting at 12 weeks, I started at 8 this time. I have also had extra scans from 16 weeks. Just had my 28 week one today. When/if you do try again, make sure to seek out a mental health midwife who can help you navigate the anxiety of pregnancy after loss, and they will also help advocate for you for any extra care you may require. I'm so sorry you're going through this ❤️

Thank you so much for your reply. This has helped me alot because this is exactly how i feel, forgotten about already and not sure what's happening.

I wondered about asprin at 8 weeks instead of 12. My spotting started at 8 weeks so i wonder if asprin could have prevented this.

Congratulations with your pregnancy! That has given me hope xx
