I'm 28 weeks. Had my glucose test with the midwife yesterday to test for GD.

She called this morning and said my iron is a bit low so she's gonna give me iron tablets and she said that my fasting bloods were .1 lower than they'd like so I've to go to the hospital next week to a drop in session that educates you about it?

I have no idea what that means, can anyone shed any light?

She said I wouldn't need to go on any medication or anything like that but this was just to speak to a diabetic nurse to speak about how to stop my fasting bloods being too low.. they said my bloods after the glucose drink were fine, it's just the fasting bloods.

Any information would be good as I'm clueless about diabetes. I really don't know anything about it

I am a type one diabetic myself and was actually diagnosed in pregnancy.

From the information you’ve given and my own personal experience it doesn’t sound like you’ve got gestational diabtes. Diabetes is when blood sugars are too high, so if your bloods after the glucose drink were within normal range you’ve not got diabetes.

Sounds as if though you may suffer with hypoglycaemia which is low blood sugars, but the docs will be able to help with this. I definitely wouldn’t panic though. Hope all goes well for you and you’re little one 😊

Did they give you your actual blood results for before the sugary drink and after?

@Rosegarden12 thanks for the info.

Yeah they said mine was 5.1 and they like it to be at least 5.2 or above. So only a tiny bit under.

I was just confused as to why I was being sent to a diabetic nurse for that.

0.1 difference is literally nothing, I genuinely wouldn’t give it another thought. I’m no expert, but I’ve attached the a table for normal blood sugars from the diabtes uk website. Hope this helps. They might advise you to eat a little more maybe, which is never a bad thing 😉

@Rosegarden12 ah okay, thanks for that. So I'd be non diabetic then? I just don't get why I need to go to a diabetic clinic for it but I'll go anyway and see what they say

In my opinion not a chance your diabetic with barely a sugar rise. My fasting bloods were 8.2 and my bloods after I had the sugar drink were 18.9.

A diabetic team treat hypoglycaemia with diabetics as it often happens as a result of too much insulin, so I would imagine they’re probably just the best people to see you.
