Hi ladies
I had baby on Friday and we have been in a baby bubble ever since!!!
I am besotted by her but the lack of sleep is really starting to get to me. The only reason I’m not sleeping is because I’m spending so much time worrying about baby at night with the room temp.
midwife said 16-20, no higher than 20. Vest, babygrow, then blanket and that’s all that’s required.
I got the groegg and it’s always bloody too hot. House is always at 21 apparently but what I don’t understand is I feel really cold and im worried that baby does too? The thermometer is telling me it’s too hot but body temp wise the house feels cold, even my parents said it felt cold when they came in!!!
probably am but am I looking too much into all the temp stuff and how did you ladies ensure baby was at a good temp during the winter?

Try not to worry about it so much. You will drive yourself insane.

Long sleeve vest, onesie, sleeping bag/gro bag 2.5tog and put their hands in the mittens on the onesie.

Just check temperature of chest when you change nappy.

There is so much to worry about and try not to sweat the small stuff. Baby will tell you if there is something wrong xx

Aww congratulations OP! Totally normal to worry about this - mine was a newborn in the middle of the 2021 heatwave and our room was 29c at night! 😱 That flippin egg used to stress me out so much!

I always found this to be really helpful (hopefully the link can be seen?). I was told that it is much more dangerous for a baby to overheat than be too cold - if they are cold, they will wake up and cry, but if they are too hot, they wont and can sadly overheat in their sleep. I think you'll be surprised at how little they need (in comparison to us in our 12tog duvet especially!) So even for a newborn, id err on the side of caution. Much easier to add a layer in the middle of night after a feed than be worrying about them being too hot. Are you using sleep bags / swaddles?

Mine is a toddler now, but her room is 19c at the minute and she is in a short sleeved vest, pjs and 1tog sleep bag.

I feel like the egg is really inaccurate to be honest🤣 I use a short sleeve vest, sleepsuit and love to dream swaddle at the minute. Does the babies chest feel cold? X

Your body temperature will be off for a while as your hormones will be settling and can make you feel hotter or colder than it actually is. Don’t stress too much about room temperature. Feel baby’s chest to see if hot/cold. Remember it’s safer for baby to be colder rather than too hot, and if they are cold they will let you know, whereas too hot they don’t tend to.

I have bought the grobag swaddlebag for my baby due next month.. I got 2.5.tog thinking winter but our bedroom is usually around 18 degrees.. Could I use the with just a long sleeve vest? or with the baby grow and no vest? It's a minefield!
