Does a strong positive mean...

Twins? I had a very strong positive the day before my period was due. Darker than the control line. Panicking a bit because twins are not in the plan.

Not always. My twin line was very faint even days after. My singleton line was super strong from the start!

PrudeyTwoShoes · 30/10/2023 20:12

As PP said, this doesn't indicate twins. Both of my DS's lines were dark and came up instantly by missed period (two separate pregnancies, not twins).

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 30/10/2023 20:14

The strength of the line can’t be taken as an indicator of more than one.

Congratulations on your BFP!

Thank you for your responses - makes me feel better. I am 4+3 and will be booking an early scan!

It could mean it's a girl. I had the same, very dark line, much darker than control line with my dd. With both boys, the test line was fainter. There is a theory that higher hcg levels are linked with a female fetus. But no it doesn't necessarily mean twins at all.

Purtyburty · 30/10/2023 21:21

@Pennyroses oh I hadn't thought of that! Girl would be nice x

High Hcg can also sometimes (rarely) indicate a molar pregnancy, no way of knowing without a scan.

mondaytosunday · 30/10/2023 21:52

No. My son was a very strong positive. I felt the implantation and he was a busy baby and came out all guns blazing at 37 weeks weighing over 10lbs! He's 20 now, and today went to the gym before work, kick-boxing after, and has just texted he hasn't reached 15,000 steps so is off on a walk! Of course those things may not be connected at all. But my daughter by contrast was faint, tested a few times and didn't quite believe I was pregnant til I had the sonogram at ten weeks. She's quiet, studious and low energy.

Alicenwonderland · 30/10/2023 22:31

Strong lines with all four of my single pregnancies. I wasn't even late for my period when I tested positive with number two! I just knew I was pregnant as I had strong symptoms. My body would just go into overdrive when I was pregnant. Congratulations OP ❤️

PickledScrump · 31/10/2023 07:34

No it doesn’t, could just be higher hcg levels or that you ovulated earlier than expected. Doesn’t indicate twins or a girl or any of the other myths, just that you are pregnant. Congratulations

Hiddenvoice · 31/10/2023 07:35

I had a very strong positive with my daughter and almost a faint line throughout with my son.

Don’t be silly

LadyGeorginaSmythe · 31/10/2023 07:38

My twins were a negative when I tested a day late and a normal positive a week later. I didn't test inbetween.
My singleton was a strong positive when I tested ... I probably tested early as we were trying and I was breaking my heart every month.
Twins weren't in my plan either and were a shock but nothing about the test to indicate there were 2 so don't worry!

Don’t be silly

It’s not silly at all. There would be a generally higher level of HCG and so a darker line, but other factors also affect it, so there’s overlap between what you see with a singleton pregnancy and a twin one.

That was a bit rude.
