5 week 4 day scan

I had a scan today (transvaginal) and they saw the sack and yolk but no embryo. They want me to go back in two weeks. Is this normal for this stage? Panicking!

It’s far too early to see much more.
I had a transvaginal scan at 6weeks and they found a pole ( early stage of heart development) but nothing much to see on abdominal.
At 8 weeks there was an embryo with beating heart.
At 5 weeks the embryo is only 3 weeks from fertilisation of the egg.
The picture below shows what it looks like hence the description “pole”. It’s only the size of an orange seed at this point. The round thing it is attached to is the yoke sack and it’s probable that your baby may just be hiding behind the yoke or that your dates are not as far ahead as you think.
It’s not really possible to accurately date at this stage.
It’s pretty amazing that in 7 weeks it will look like a fully formed human.
I studied embryology as a student many years ago. It never ceases to amaze me how we develop from a single cell.

I’m sorry. Mine didn’t end happily. Scan at 11 weeks showed a missed miscarriage and baby had stopped growing at 7 ish weeks. Xx
