Hi, so I'm 5 weeks pregnant (almost 6), and I've had such strong symptoms. I tested positive early which I didn't with my first child. I also been very hungry, had sickness, bad gas and stomach, constantly weeing, tiredness and my boobs have grown 2 sizes already and I've gained weight quite quickly. I don't remember having no way near the amount of symptoms with my first which is making me question twins. I'm an identical twin and my partner has twin nephews.

It’s only fraternal twins which run in families, and only on the female side so theoretically neither of your family twins increase the likelihood that you will have twins. Nevertheless it’s entirely possible!

MamaMeggie · 30/10/2023 15:31

See you say that, but my family has 3 sets of identical twins in 2 generations! My mother has identical twin brothers, identical twin sisters and had identical twins herself! (Me being one) We also have twins running further back but non identical too. My midwife said she’d never seen so many twins running through the family and was shocked I was only having one 😂 she said there must be some sort of egg splitting gene we have been carrying. So yeah entirely possible as you say

OP, Sounds to me like the symptoms are very strong but it’s hard to tell until it’s confirmed as can vary with each pregnancy of course. Good luck regardless!

See if you can book in for an early private scan. I was the same as you and we’ve a lot of twins on my mums side of the family so wanted to check. My mum thought she was having twins when pregnant with me for the same reasons but both just single babies. I was measuring a little bigger on than expected in my scan so must have ovulated really early in my cycle.

I hope your symptoms ease up and congrats on your pregnancy! You will have to let us know if it’s one or two ☺️

Ooo I'll have a look into this, didn't know it was possible tbh, I'll see how early they can scan 😊. Thank you.

@Silverchalk46 I got a scan at what I thought was bang on 7 weeks to be told I was 7+2! I used a company called Ultrasound Direct, they seem to be national. My partner was allowed in with me and they give you the photos away with you and we got a digital copy of the tiny heart flutter.

Really lovely experience but great to put your mind at ease if you suspect twins! Tbh I’m still not 100% a second one wasn’t hiding haha will know more at my 12 weeks next week.

There is also an old wives’ tale that girls make you feel sicker than boys, so depending on the sex of your first child this may or may not fit for you!

HettySunshine · 30/10/2023 17:42

This was me at 5 weeks with my twins. I had a noticeable bump. By 10 weeks (when I found out I was expecting twins) I had a big enough bump that it was clear I was pregnant.

The twins were my second pregnancy and I'm not exaggerating when I say every single symptom was doubly bad compared with my first pregnancy.

Good luck! I hope everything goes well.

First one was a boy so would make sense. I've booked an early scan for Saturday so they will be able to check if there's one or two.

Oh that's interesting. Having had one set of twins randomly your Mom would be more likely to be have another set
The reason I didn't have more kids after my twins.... But theoretically your twins are just a fluke...
I think it makes sense tho that there's a genetic disposition to unstable eggs.

Op I felt like shit before my period was due and tested clear positive a day earlier than I should have tested. I honestly thought my period was due because I felt so rough and sore and nauseous. It tailed off fairly quickly I think, it's hard to remember 4 years ago when you have 4 year old twins because 4 twin years is like 42 years.

Good luck!!

Hahaha yeah.
If they tell you that's not a second baby, it's just the yolk sack, they're lying....

Scan at 7 weeks, 1 baby.
Scan at 12 weeks, 2 babies.
Third scan I was bloody terrified 🤣🤣

snoopy18 · 30/10/2023 18:42

My symptoms came on much earlier this pregnancy & it was like my first pregnancy but on E.Absolutely awful first trimester too. Definately only one in there.Could just be the way your body is handling the pregnancy.Every pregnancy can be very different midwife said.

Twimum23 · 30/10/2023 20:51

@Silverchalk46 I had identical twin boys in July got one set on mine and 5 sets of identical twins on the dads side so it can happen
I had hardly any symptoms till like the last 2-3 weeks with chronic heartburn and sickness when u look from behind j wouldn’t of even thought I was pregnant and even from the right I had a small bump

JessicaPeach · 30/10/2023 20:55

Yes don't be surprised if it's no twins at 6+4 then a little surprise appears at a later scan! I was 8+3 and saw both twins easily but I I've got twin mum friends who only saw one baby at an early scan. Best of luck x

Silverchalk46 · 04/11/2023 21:36

So I went for a scan today, they've only picked up one baby for now.

Glad your scan went well.
How are you feeling about that @Silverchalk46 ?
Were you disappointed or a bit relieved?

I'm quite relieved.. haven't got the room for two, got a spare room but it's only small so it's good for one baby but might be too much of a squeeze for two. Not sure about symptoms though, I'm 7 weeks on wed and my boobs are like 3 sizes bigger and I've gained weight like mad. It's just strange as first one I only had a bit of sickness.and cramping. With this one I'm cramping every day.

Twins does complicate life, that's for sure - in the future: bigger car, bigger rooms, twice everything! Potentially more complex pregnancy and birth.

I wish you well, and am sure life will expand to fit if you do have twins.

Keep us posted, your body is certainly gearing up, whatever happens!

Twimum23 · 06/11/2023 21:29

@Silverchalk46 when I had my twins people said to me that I’ll put on loads of weight carrying two but I didn’t I lost nearly two stone but none of the consultants was worried about it. My birth and pregnancy was a breeze really no complications nothing whereas my sister only had one and she had a few complications.

Hi all. I have a set of fraternal twin girls 22 months. I did a test and it came back a strong postive 5 days early for my period(first 2 pictures) I am now 4 days late and just wanted to do a test randomly but it is stronger than ever like it was with my twin girls(last two photos)I've never been so tired and asleep for 10pm and throughout the day tired! my friends are noticing it and making comments. I will be 5 weeks today of the record.. I have PCOS and have had 8 miscarriages before my rainbow twins. It is possibly I may be carrying twins again? I don't even feel bloated but clearly it is but my belly is so big already 😩 I know the more pregnancies you have the quicker you show but I'm wondering could it be. When I was ovulating I was in ridiculous pain and the only pain with ovulating was the time with my twins it was alday and just was awful! What's the possibility?!

Hi! Were you carrying twins?

sel2223 · 16/08/2024 12:04

I've got a girl aged 4 and seem to be having much worse symptoms this time around.
I also got the strongest line on my BFP that I've ever seen and already look 3 months pregnant at just 7 and a half weeks. I've never felt tiredness like it before either.
I was convinced it must be twins but, nope, early scan confirmed only one in there
