Hi!

First time poster!

I am 33, have DD 14, I had her aged 18 (unexpected pregnancy) she is a gorgeous wonderful child and it’s been just us most of her life.
Now met the love of my life aged 40 (2.5 years in) he has a 6 yr old.

We have just decided to try for our own 🥰 but Iv been on the coil for so so long now I’m worried about what could happen when I have it removed this week and what else is to come!

How long to conceive? Are we a bit too old to get our hopes up?

I’m cautiously excited!

Following this. I'm 27 with no living children but my DH is 40. He has 2 kids age 15 & 13. We've been TTC for a year with 3 MC. Interesting to see if anyone says if anything's changed! Obviously we have been tracking ovulation etc as caught 3x but they won't stick

@cloudnine13 hey, thank you for commenting! Wishing you all the best! Hoping others come along and tell us everything 😁

No, you're definitely not too old to try for a baby at 33 of course. I wish I was 33. I am pregnant with my first at 42! Many women nowadays don't try for a baby until they are in their thirties so you are not the odd one out! Good luck with your journey but I'm sure you'll be fine!

I'm pregnant at 37 with my 4th. My others are 16, 14 and 13! I was worried like you but it ended up only taking us 7 months to conceive x

No experience with the coil I'm afraid, but I was 38 and my partner 42 when I conceived - first time of trying! I know it doesn't always happen so soon, we were lucky. But neither of you are too old for sure. Wishing you lots of luck 😊

Forgot to say... we used the Clearblue ovulation tests to see when I would be ovulating. Might be worth considering, as I think your periods may take a while to settle down after having the coil removed? (I could be wrong though). Can make it a bit difficult to predict ovulation.

I had a coil in for 8 years, had it taken out in the September and decided to leave it a few months to settle down, started trying in April and caught that month. I was 30. 10 years between that one and my first. Had coil put back in and taken out a few years later to try for third. Caught straight away. No issues from the coil. Main difference now and my first was it’s now recommended to take vitamin D as well as folic acid and after 16 weeks you get a whooping cough vaccine

Flobomobo · 25/10/2023 11:58

Thank you to all replies!

its an exciting time! I’m more nervous about being off of the coil than anything at the moment as it’s been so long without periods (blessing!)

good luck to everyone pregnant and trying to conceive 😀

Did you periods come back straight away?

were they really heavy or the same etc?

did you notice any massive differences in your moods or how you felt physically etc?

@Flobomobo they were irregular for about 4 months. Went from 28 day bang on cycle pre coil to 30-32 days after. I don’t think they were any heavier though. I think my moods were a bit all over the place while my cycle settled down. When I conceived my third I was tracking ovulation and it took 5 weeks after coil removal to ovulate and got pregnant straight away.

Thank you for your reply! That’s amazing to conceive so quickly, I know not always the case.

@Flobomobo absolutely, I feel really lucky. I know when I was looking to conceive I couldn’t find much about after coil removal and the bits I did weren’t very positive. So I like to share my experience as it’s really disheartening seeing negative posts
