Unexplained bleed - please help :(

Hi everyone
I've searched high and low and can't find anyone who has had this scenario (i'm sure it's there and I just can't find it)

I had a small light bleed at 8 weeks and have had spotting on and off ever since. I am now nearly 13 weeks and have had another light bleed. Both have been after abdominal ultrasounds which is strange.

I was asked to go to the antenatel ward where they did an internal check and an ultrasound. They can't find any source of bleeding, it's totally unexplained. Baby was absolutely fine and they did see a bleed on the screen. She said sometimes this can escalate to a miscarriage but the bleed looked small.

4 weeks of spotting, some bleeding, no answers and the response of 'threatened miscarriage'

At a time where you'd usually be telling people and preparing, I feel so hopeless as to when of if this will stop.

Has anyone else had an experience like this?

Thanks in advance

I had quite similar. I had on and off bleeding from 6-9 weeks, at times it got so heavy that I was convinced it was a MC but each time I went for a scan the baby was fine and they couldn’t see any explanation for the bleeding at all. After the third time I was actually asked to show them my pad, they said it was so they could check the colour but I actually think it was because they didn’t really believe me because they couldn’t see any signs of bleeding on the scans. I was put ok progesterone suppositories but the bleeding continued until 10 weeks when it finally stopped. However I then had some light spotting again at 17 weeks and went into be checked and once again the scan was fine so they did a speculum exam to see if my cervix Was open and to check for signs of infection and after the speculum I had a huge bleed which then made me bleed for the next 5 days. All the time I was bleeding heavily but scans showed I had a high placenta, cervix closed, baby fine. Eventually the conclusion is that the bleeding must be coming from somewhere inside the vagina rather than from inside the uterus which I guess is good from a pregnancy perspective as there’s no real risk to the baby but it’s been very scary. I have been advised to be on “pelvic rest” so no sex, no swimming; no baths etc to avoid irritation to the inside of the vagina. So it could be something similar?

Thanks so much for your response, i really appreciate it.

They did see an area of bleeding on my ultrasound which I guess is slightly different to you? The doctor was pleased it was small but it's there

I bled from 7 weeks till around 16 weeks on and off. When I went in around 8 weeks, the scan showed a small bleed too but the sonographer wasn't concerned and said that explains the bleed.

2 weeks later I had gone in again for bleeding, and the bleed on the scan was a lot smaller. Sonographer wasn't fussed about measuring it but as I was worried she went ahead and measured, and assured me as it was getting smaller there's nothing to worry about

Thank you so much. One thing I find strange is that I just had my 12 week scan two days ago and it wasn't mentioned at all. I wonded if because it's small then it's hard to see

Ah ok so if they can see it on the scan then it’s not unexplained! It’s a haematoma. They can get smaller or bigger as pregnancy progresses, they’re quite common. I don’t think you have anything to worry about!

I had a a bleed when I was around 8/9 weeks and there was a fair amount. I went to the EPU as I thought it was a miscarriage and they told me it was a haematoma. They said it normally just shrinks on its own and it did shrink and I only had spotting after that for a short while. Rest of the pregnancy was fine and my little girl is currently asleep on me. I hope everything goes well for you!! 💕

Thank you so much. One of the doctors told me just to hope for the best which freaked me out and they still referred to it as unexplained which confused me too 😞
