Hey
I'm 32 weeks 1 day pregnant.
Had a growth scan today and they have estimated baby at 4lbs8oz.

Is that considered a good weight or should I expect baby to be big.

Background:
Child 1: 6lbs1oz
Child 2: 7lbs6oz
Child 3: 9lbs6oz

At 32+3 I had a scan that showed 5lbs 1oz, anyway growth tailed and has now settled to 7lbs at 38+5 so it's really hard to tell. I'm a believer they don't grow in straight lines and have growth spurts and can also slow, you've got time yet to see what happens.

Mine was estimated 5lb at 32 weeks and for me that was around 80th centile.

So I'd say probably really average weight? They claim an average of 0.5lb a week growth so adding another 4lb onto that would give a 40 week weight of 8.5lb, which is well within your usual.

Growth scans can also be something insane like 20% off!

Thanks ladies... I'm just slightly worried as I have my c section booked for 29th Nov and wondered of she will put on more weight. I'm hoping around 7lbs mark. That would be ideal x

A bit above average, about 75% centile if expecting a boy, bit higher if expecting a girl. On the centile charts, yes, in theory that would mean about 8.5 lbs at due date. I'd agree, though, that growth isn't always exactly textbook and that growth scans can be out by quite a bit. Growth scans were very consistent for DD2, and predicted no more than 7 lb. She was 8 lb 11 oz born.

@skkyelark yes I understand where to are coming from. When I was pregnant with my son in 2021, 2 weeks before I have birth they estimated that he was 6lbs12oz. Fast forward 2 weeks when I gave birth to him he cam out a big 9lbs6oz.
.I am very sceptical the growth scans. But I suppose I'll just have to wait and see.
