Exercise after birth

With only a few weeks to go I'm really missing a good hard exercise session (yes sometimes I question my sanity)and am starting to get a tad bored with swimming and walking.

Anyway how soon after birth (providing it's a straightforward one) will I be able to

  1. Run
  2. Lift weights
  3. Do a hard exercise class like circuit training.

I realise it will probbaly be a good few weeks and I will be horrendously tired but exercise really does make me feel better and happier.

Also, any suggestions for exercise I can do before attempting the hard stuff again.

Thanks

Talk to your Midwife and if you go to a gym one of the trainers. I suspect it will depend on how your labour and delivery goes

You're going to want to get back into it very gently and gradually, and I would wait at 2 or 3 months before doing the running and other things you mention.

There should be some info here

Thanks - the website was really useful

I enjoy running, and miss it when pg, but never managed one within 3 months of giving birth. The first run each time nearly killed me! The following runs gradually got easier though, but was a few months more before I managed to do it regularly. Was hard to time and had to coincide with DH being home / good weather / baby just had a feed from both sides (otherwise too painful to run!). The logistical side was more of a challenge than the physical!

Had straighforward labours so may have felt differently after c section.
