Hip pain!

Hi all, new here! šŸ‘‹šŸ¼

I’m 27 weeks pregnant and have been side sleeping for a while now. The trouble is after about 4/5 hours in bed I wake up with hip pain, so I roll over sleep for an hour and then wake up with hip pain on the other side, repeat until I get fed up and get out of bed.

I know this is a common pregnancy symptom but I feel like I’ve been suffering a lot longer than some of my friends who had it. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for what worked for them?

So far I’ve tried…

  • 2 different pregnancy pillows
  • pillow between the knees
  • mattress topper
  • memory foam mattress
  • hot water bottle
  • midwife recommended osteopath

The osteopath gave me a couple of exercises to do which work but only for a short while. They did also suggest Deep Heat but I don’t think that can be used in pregnancy.

Any suggestions appreciated. TYIA.

Following. I'm only 16w in and I've been suffering for weeks already!
So relentless.
Sorry you're having the same issues. I didn't have with previous pregnancies so this is all new for me.

I posted the exact same the other week and got some good advice. I'm now sleeping on another duvet folded in half and I'm not suffering anywhere near as much.

@TTCJJB - as in like a mattress topper? So to make your bed softer?
I hate a soft bed, but willing to try!

I’ve been trying to strengthen my lower back and hip area with yoga to try to ward off some of the horrible aches and pains.

Side lying clam is a good exercise. And anything aimed at stretching/strengthening the psoas muscles.

Thanks for your suggestions. I tried the duvet trick but it didn’t make any difference for me :-(

Think I’ll have to look into some pre-natal yoga!
