Early scan at 6 weeks

Just had my early viability scan at 6 weeks. They could see a gestational sac measuring over 12mm with potentially the start of a yolk sac but this can’t be confirmed. The sonographers are saying this is normal as I could be earlier than what I think I am. I am not, I have very regular cycles and know when I ovulated. I was really expecting to see an embryo with a heartbeat. Has anyone got any stories related to early scans? Positive or negative welcomed. Thank you

I have never had a scan before 7 weeks as I have heard that the heartbeat can be difficult to detect before then. Even though you know when you have ovulated, you could have implanted late which means there is a possibility you are earlier on than expected. In which case, your situation at the scan would be completely normal. I would book another one at around 8 weeks when they can really see more.

Did you have a transvaginal or transabdominal scan as so early on the tranvaginal is usually a lot more accurate? I just had my private scan today for reassurance and according to my dates I should be 6 + 4 today- baby was seen on the screen with a heartbeat and this was a transvaginal scan. My little bean did measure a bit behind in dates but so early on it’s very difficult to be accurate so I’m not worrying.
I agree with the previous OP, you might have implanted later than you thought and can be earlier than 6 weeks hence why there was no fetal pole and heartbeat. 🤞🤞

Hi, I'm in a similar position. I had an early scan on Thursday, there was a york sac but nothing else yet. But it was done abdomally, and the sonographer recommended a vaginal scan for more detail. They also said because of my irregular periods and possibly late implantation, I could be a lot earlier. I'm supposed to be 7+3.
They told me to go for a vaginal scan in a week, but if things hadn't developed, It would most likely be a silent miscarriage, as I have no cramping or bleeding.

I had an early scan at 6 weeks in my first pregnancy, and they could see a sac and yolk sac but no embryo so got dated at 5+5 instead of 6. Had a repeat scan 2 weeks later and there was an embryo and heartbeat. It’s quite common not to see an embryo at 6 weeks but less so not to be able to see a yolk sac.

Thank you for all your comments. I had a transvaginal scan, just not feeling hopeful at all as I’m so sure of my dates. I’m sure conception happened quickly too as I wasn’t due AF until Saturday and I tested positive on the Monday before that. So who knows, hopefully it’s just a slow grower but not holding up any hopes

Hi OP,
Just wondering if you had an update on the outcome? Thank you xx
