Hi, so i had a early reassurance scan yesterday as i thought i was 7 weeks pregnant, however when i went for the scan the sonographer said i was much earlier due to the size of the gestational sac.. she reckons about 3-4 weeks but couldn’t accurately say how far along i am, so now I have an appointment with the EPU monday so they can do tests. I do have longer cycles (32-35 days) and i usually ovulate late which would make sense that i’m not as far along as i thought. My questions are 1. If i was 3-4 weeks would you be able to see the gestational sac? and 2. Is it normal just to see a gestational sac if I was actually 4-5 weeks say? i’m a massive worrier and all i keep thinking is the worst case scenario 😩 attached photo of what they could see yesterday!

Early scan.

I don't think they can usually see much of anything before 6 weeks and even that varies from person to person. So if you are earlier than you think, it's unlikely for them to see much just yet

@Ttcmumma Thankyou!

You don't see a lot until 6-7 weeks, happens to a lot of women - they go for an early scan & there's nothing really to see as they are earlier on than they thought.
I understand it is worrying when you want some reassurance from the scan but it is very common so try not to worry.
No way of knowing much more for a couple of weeks x

@confusingpgtimes thankyou for your reply. I think because I thought I was a lot further along I was shocked to just see the gestational sac. I did test negative a week before i tested positive so it does make sense, as i do usually ovulate late in my cycle anyway. I don’t know what i’m so worried about, this is my first pregnancy and i’ve never gone through a miscarriage before but my anxiety and emotions are through the roof atm! I will do, thankyou so much x

Hi @Jadelovely I am aware this is an old post and I am so sorry if I appear to be insensitive however I was just wondering what your outcome was please? I’m currently sailing the same boat… early scan telling me I’m 2 weeks behind!

Jadelovely · 05/11/2023 17:58

Hi, i went back two weeks later and there is a baby and a heartbeat! don’t stress, i know it’s hard but i’ve read about it and it’s more common then we think! good luck 💕

Ah thank you so much and congratulations! Has baby caught up slightly?

Jadelovely · 05/11/2023 21:07

@LW678 Thankyou! no i was measuring 7 weeks and 1 day when i went for that scan. I ovulate pretty late in my cycle and have longer cycles generally so it made sense that i was two weeks behind. The dr wasn’t worried at all, she was just happy to see a baby and a heartbeat x
