@Petris123 I signed up for antenatal class. Not starting until Feb. I did read a book about breastfeeding - Breasfeeding and the forth trimester. I am first time mum - but the book gave me assurance no one rule is right, it offers many methods and take things easy overall. So I would have plenty of ideas to explore the best way to breastfeed. The author seems proud of her qualification and when she explain the method she will also explain reasoning behind it, which I found them helpful.

sugarplum33 · 26/01/2024 19:42

@Petris123 I don't think they can stop you leaving with your own baby if you've both been discharged. And not everybody even has a car seat- what about those who only use public transport? I'd tell them but in a 'this is what is happening' way rather than 'is it okay if'. The postnatal midwives were arsey with me when I asked someone to quickly check DD looked okay in her car seat before we left, I don't think anyone gave a hoot how we got her home.

@evie213 In terms of recovery it's a bit dependent on what sort of birth you have so might be worth making a list of things you might need and then getting your DP to grab anything you do need at the time. I was going to buy some 'spritz for bits' but it's quite expensive and glad I didn't as I ended up with a EMCS and my bits were intact! 🤣 a big litter picker style grabber would have been very handy when recovering from that though as I couldn't bend to pick anything up! In general though lots of huge black knickers, boots maternity pads, plenty of snacks to get your energy back up and some comfy pyjamas (button top if you plan to breastfeed).

I wonder if anyone still have itchy or painful nipple?? My nipples are still itchy from a couple of weeks back . And I think I saw some skin peeling . I wonder if anyone using any cream ? I use bio oil for my tummy - so I just start rub around nipple also now.

sugarplum33 · 26/01/2024 21:02

@MumDaisy1980 Mine are so itchy! Drives me mad haha

Ttcmumma · 26/01/2024 21:02

@MumDaisy1980 I had to change to sports bras, and not too tight. I also find them extremely uncomfortable in the cold! But mine have thankfully improved, I also take off my bra when I am at home to give them more time to 'breathe' as they were unbearable a couple of weeks ago

I literally moisturise my bump and boobs about 4 times per day! Thank god for wfh. My nipples were really itchy and dry.

SummerOak · 26/01/2024 22:04

@MumDaisy1980 I've been using a nipple cream because my nipples were dry. It's really hard to get the cream out, but they're definitely more moisturized now. www.boots.com/lansinoh-hpa-lanolin-10ml-10230475

@Ttcmumma ah thanks, glad it's not something that we need to have urgently.

Question for those of you with heartburn. Is it normal to feel nauseous because of it? I woke up at 3am last night because of nausea, then had acid in my throat. Had a bit of milk and went back to sleep propped up on my left side, luckily could sleep again. I'm still feeling a bit nauseous this morning. I think it's heartburn, never had it before.

That sounds more like reflux. Unless you get stomach pain as well?
I have a lot of reflux these days (but I had it before as well), but no heartburn.
I think its because the stomach is so squished now, I end up having more indigestion, which then causes food and acid to come back up!

The two are not completely dissimilar, though! But for me, heartburn feels more like my actual stomach is on fire.

ASGIRC · 27/01/2024 00:01

Petris123 · 26/01/2024 17:37

Also is anyone else doing a prenatal course? I'm doing one and they talked about breastfeeding but I'm getting lots of adverts about the Thompson method which says traditional breastfeeding techniques are terrible etc. (Nose to nipple, cross cradling) so I'm not sure what to do / who to believe 😑.

Personally, I distrust heavily marketed "methods" you need to buy into...
It might not be bad, but I just dont feel at all reassured by them.

MumDaisy1980 · 27/01/2024 02:10

@SummerOak thanks!

Mrsttcno1 · 27/01/2024 09:03

I also still have very itchy nipples and they leak almost constantly throughout the day so I’ve started using breast pads because it was staining all my pjs🤣 its not very glamorous is it! X

Ttcmumma · 27/01/2024 15:57

I thought I escaped it as a few of you had mentioned heartburn for a while but mine has well and truly kicked in today 😬. I couldn't sleep in the early morning and now just sitting watching a film with my son it is painful!

SummerOak · 27/01/2024 17:44

@ASGIRC could be reflux then, I didn't have any stomach pains. I'm just hoping it doesn't become a regular thing. I'm going to try eating less in the evening so it doesn't happen again.

sweetdreams23 · 27/01/2024 18:33

@SummerOak yes I also suffer with this. In fact the other day I felt the acid was sat in my chest/ throat for ages and ended up throwing up. It’s horrid. Gaviscon always did work for me but I’ve got a prescription now for some little tablets and so far so good, much more convenient to just take one of those in the morning. Last pregnancy it got progressively worse and I’d wake up with it. Then when baby dropped down at maybe 36/37 weeks it just stopped straight away!

ASGIRC · 27/01/2024 22:16

@SummerOak yeah, eating less seems to help. I have woken up with my dinner still intact, in my stomach, in the middle of the night, fairly often these days... I guess digestion is sluggish due to lack of space... And that makes the reflux worse. Sometimes I take a rennie, to try and help it.

Ive reached a point of being constantly uncomfortable... Her kicks and movements hurt me, my belly is heavy (even thought it is small-ish) and I cant really walk around without a pregnancy band or similar, and the muscles feel really stretched and hurt!!!
Still have 8 weeks to go (all going according to my plan!) and Im not sure how Im gonna cope! LOL

MumDaisy1980 · 27/01/2024 22:22

in The past few days I started heartburn and stomach acid symptoms also.

not think I ever experience heartburn before and it’s pretty strange feeling!!

i do feel more tired to walk even carrying no bag, as belly is heavier

Petris123 · 26/01/2024 17:33

On the back/hip pain, I normally wake up with pains in both my legs, anyone else? I think it might be to do with circulation as going for a walk in the evening helped?
Also does anyone know if we need a detachable/carriable car seat to leave the hospital? We got one which is supposed to stay in the car and a separate pram as we were planning to leave hospital using the pram and then transferring our girl to the car seat. But DH got "told off" by his sister as apparently they don't let you leave the hospital?

@petris123 I was speaking to the midwife who runs my yoga class on Friday. She said it's actually something to do with the health and safety risk of carrying the baby in your arms & nothing to do with them wanting to check the car seat, in fact like others said some will refuse to check and just give advice on no snowsuits when in the seat etc.
I'd double check with a midwife in your area but she told me if for whatever reason you wouldn't have a car seat you would be allowed to bring a pram in.

chlo299 · 30/01/2024 08:07

Anyone been diagnosed with GD? I was last week at 28w been trying diet until someone reaches out to me about tablets or insulin but my sugars are so out of range. One day same food puts me in target zone then next day it's like 10.1 after same food. Like yesterday my fasting sugar was 9.3 😳 anyone going through something similar or been put on tablets/insulin? What were your sugars like?

1994jk · 01/02/2024 18:18

Has anyone had thrush so far during pregnancy? Had a message from the midwife this evening saying swab tested positive for thrush so to buy a canestan pessary from Boots, tried to call them back to clarify but they must have gone home. I spoke to the pharmacist at Boots who offered me a few different options and I had no idea which was best so went for the one in the picture. Anyone used this and is it definitely safe in pregnancy? I did ask the pharmacist about the safety and he just said if your midwife said to get it then its fine, so it didn't fill me with confidence

@1994jk

Yeah I've used them in every trimester so far lol, prescribed by doctor, midwife and consultant at hospital so all fine. They advise not using the applicator tho, just your fingers to insert. I never normally get thrush but this pregnancy seems to be reoccurring 🤦🏼‍♀️

Ttcmumma · 01/02/2024 18:27

@1994jk don't think that tagged you properly

1994jk · 01/02/2024 19:14

@Ttcmumma fab thank you!

ZB86 · 02/02/2024 11:56

Hope everyone is well. Just wondering if anyone has any tips on where to start when choosing a pram/travel system? It feels completely overwhelming. We have an appointment at John Lewis next week but they only have a few of the more popular models in the stores. There seems to be so much choice online but I wouldn't want to buy such an important thing without seeing it and having a play. It's really difficult to find out from looking online which of the non major brands models places actually have in their showrooms to look at. Any advice much appreciated as it feels like time is ticking now!

Ttcmumma · 02/02/2024 12:09

@ZB86 it's worth thinking about your lifestyle. Do you need to fit it in the car? Are you more of a public transport person (you'd likely need something smaller and lighter/easy to fold up), where will it be stored in your home and how much space do you have for it? Do you need it for a lot of off road walking in parks etc?

I personally have the mamas and papas ocarro from my son and loved it so will be getting it cleaned and reused, it is on the bigger/heavier side so I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it on public transport so much but I am always in the car and at the park as a dog walker so it was very strong and sturdy. When I used a smaller, lightweight one it always felt like it was going to tip over.
