Kidney damage post partum pre eclampsia

Hey. Hopefully in the right place. I had PPE 2 years ago and was stabilised with labetalol and nidedipine.

Now I have protein in urine and kidney damage. Ultrasound showed normal kidney structure but blood showed 75% function.

Has anyone else had this? Just asking for people's experience as I'm quite worried and not sure what to do. Dr are useless and no help/ advice. Thank you

I can’t answer your question but I’m intreguied. I had preeclampsia /high bp 6 months ago in pregnancy and by the end I think they said my kidneys were affected. PE went away as soon as ds was born. I haven’t had any further tests. Did you have to request the tests?

Do you know your most recent eGFR result? You would be surprised, 75% function (if you're going by egfr result) is still in the realms of "normal" as far as doctors are concerned, you won't get a referral to a kidney doctor until it's lower than 60. It's more about the rate of decline, if they have suffered some damage and are now at 75% you could be fine well into old age at that level if no further damage is occurring. It's really important though to understand if they are still in decline and halt it if possible if that's the case.

It's not the same but post pregnancy I had something called a PUJ obstruction where my ureter tube was basically blocked and my right kidney swelled up and sustained a fair amount of damage - it now only functions at 25% (eg if two healthy kidneys filter 50% of your blood volume on each side) my split is more like 75 in the left and 25 in the right. My actual egfr score is hovering around 60 and hopefully it will stay that way now that what was causing the damage has been fixed.

I'm awaiting blood test results as I am suffering from unexplained odema. My PE was 20 years ago

I was exhausted a few months ago and had put it down to working FT and having a toddler, but I was falling asleep at 6pm so went to dr who did bloods. Had low vit d and iron and supplements have fixed the fatigue. The kidney function result came from the blood tests.
Thought I'd clicked reply 🙄

@lollydu thank you-that is very helpful. I have no idea what my eGFR result is. I should be able to ask the Dr more specific questions to try ans understand what is happening.

If you have access to the NHS app your blood results should be in there xx
