Bad nausea = twins?

I tested positive for third child at 10 DPO and even though I'm not even 4 weeks yet I've got really bad nausea, dizziness and fatigue. I'm 40 now and I know chance of multiples goes up with age, and with number of pregnancies so now I'm freaking myself out that it's twins.

Anyone had bad nausea this early and it was / wasn't twins?

I’ve had twins and a singleton pregnancy. I had MUCH worse nausea with my singleton! She is a girl and the twins are boys so that could be something to do with it.

I did, I was testing everyday and watching the lines get darker after about a week of that I took a clear blue that said pregnant 1-2 weeks and the next day morning sickness started and stayed right till I was about 16/17 weeks , wasn't twins but a big healthy boy 9.5lb , the fatigue was also awful

Bringonthesunforthewashing · 13/10/2023 12:26

I had much worse nausea with my first dd for about 16 weeks.

Twin pregnancy I was nowhere near as nauseous

Thanks for your reply! I was definitely much worse with my daughter than son, but I've never had nausea this early on. Hopefully doesn't mean anything.

Thanks. Sounds like I might be worrying about nothing!

I’ve had bad nausea this time from early days and it’s one baby but it’s a girl, had little to no nausea on my first (boy) x

Panicmode1 · 13/10/2023 15:56

I had severe nausea early on in my 4th pregnancy..I was terrified it was twins...my first question at the scan was "please just tell me quickly if it's more than one". Luckily it wasn't as I think 5 children would have pushed me over the edge 😂

vegsoup · 13/10/2023 15:58

I'm now 13 weeks with my 3rd, but my nausea and fatigue was TERRIBLE from about 3/4 weeks. The fatigue in particular, I had to lay down most days or else I thought I'd fall asleep standing upright!
I had the same thinking as you and at my scan on Monday I had the sonographer double check for multiples 😅 only one in here thankfully!

I think it must get worse in subsequent pregnancies!

Hope you're feeling better soon, there really is nothing worse and you have my full sympathy

pamshortsbrokenbothherlegs · 13/10/2023 16:27

I'm pregnant with twins now and haven't been sick yet; I did have some days of nausea in the first trimester but overall not as bad as with my singleton DD.

I'm not sure it's down to sex either, just that every pregnancy is different!

Maggierhee1 · 13/10/2023 16:36

Same fear here. I am 9 weeks pregnant with my third and although I had sickness the duration of both pregnancy before 1 of each gender this time feels awful. Headache to boot. 3 more weeks till the scan so will report back.

Superscientist · 13/10/2023 16:46

I had awful morning sickness from week 4 and 5 with 1 baby
My mum had awful morning sickness with me (1 baby) and barely any with my sister (twin pregnancy)
My sister the surviving twin had extreme HG with a 1 embryo pregnancy which ended in a termination for medical reasons.

Kirstylvsya · 13/10/2023 19:15

I had awful nausea from the get go & really strong lines super early even straight to 2-3 on clear blue. Only one, but a girl I don't know if that makes a difference x

Chanhedforthis · 13/10/2023 20:31

I've had severe nausea and I'm having a singleton (boy)

I wasn't as bad with my girls.

KombuchaKalling · 13/10/2023 20:34

I tested early and very strong line. Very nauseous week 7 to 19 -it was twin girls

WhatAPalaverer · 13/10/2023 20:34

Threw up once with twins, not at all with the singleton. Those I know who have been really ill have all had singletons.

Holdmysunhat · 13/10/2023 20:46

I’m pregnant and have known with certainty from 3 weeks because the NVP has been truly hideous! My first pregnancy was a walk in the park compared to this. I was convinced it was twins but it’s only the one. It’s not HG level severe though - huge respect to these women.

Songbird54321 · 13/10/2023 20:50

I've got 2 girls and had hyperemesis with both. First settled by 4/5 months and the second I had all the way through. Midwife reckons if your mother/grandmother/sisters had bad sickness then you're more likely to have it too but no idea how scientifically proven that is.
I won't lie, it's utterly shit. If it gets bad get some meds. Don't suffer more than you have to.

On a more positive note, congratulations on your pregnancy!

Slightlydustcovered · 13/10/2023 20:54

I had HG with both pregnancies, I was vomiting from the day my period was due to the day I gave birth. 2 singles both girls.

Twimum23 · 13/10/2023 21:09

I must of been one of the lucky ones I didn’t have any sickness or anything just had bad heartburn like a month before my twins was born

DataMum88 · 14/10/2023 04:04

One baby and had horrendous nausea from wk 5 until 6 months! It literally just started one morning, no build-up. I had a little girl which apparently means more likely to suffer with nausea (not sure how accurate that is!).

Please speak to your GP asap if it's bad. I had really strong food aversions and nausea / vomiting and was diagnosed with HG immediately and put on medication which eventually helped a little, alongside eating regular, plain food to avoid an empty stomach. HG can be diagnosed if you have nausea consistently throughout the day, not just with vomiting.

Hope it improves!

Mine was dreadful this pregnancy first trimester needed meds for it. Definately one in here.
