Hi ladies
sorry have posted a couple times - as I get closer to the end I just have so many questions!
I have suffered with genital herpes (HSV1) for the last 5 or 6 years now. I don’t get a lot of outbreaks and when I do they’re really mild. Haven’t had anything touch wood during the pregnancy, and mentioned it to my midwife at booking appointment and she said that I’ll be put on aciclovir from 36 weeks. That did happen and I’ve been taking the tablets for a week or so now.
However, I stupidly googled and saw a few horror stories of women who had no outbreaks during birth and still passed on herpes to their babies who were extremely unwell and almost suffered fatalities ….
whenever I’ve speak to my midwives they have never been fussed about it, always just said take the tablets at 36 weeks onwards and if I had an active outbreak at birth then I’d be given a c-section.
im not seeing my midwife now until I’m nearly 39 weeks and the last time I saw her we didn’t really discuss any birth plans. I’m just freaking out about the possibility of passing it onto baby, I really really want a vaginal birth and definitely feeling more worried that I have no midwife to talk to for another couple weeks!!!
just wanted others experiences with HSV1 down below and whether vaginal birth was okay for you or whether I need to start thinking asap of a c section as I understand it’s not something I can chose on the day …. Xx
