Can anyone recommend a good cream for preventing stretch marks?

I know Bio Oil is supposed to be good but is that more for trying to get rid of them once they have appeared?

I used the clarins one, can't remember the name, I have no stretchmarks and know loads of people who swear by it.

Tonic oil or something I think it's called.

needahand · 07/03/2008 15:11

Palmer stretch mark cream. V good and cheapo too

bethoo · 07/03/2008 15:18

i used baby oil mornig and night, stained some clothes but worth it as no stretch marks. think it may have been luck, only this time round will tell!!!

pollyblue · 07/03/2008 15:21

I used Palmers body oil - smells gorgeous! and absorbs really quickly. I smothered myself in it every day from about 4 months and i didn't get any stretchmarks.

I tried a coco butter one and left me with an itchy rash went to doctor who agreed I was allergic to it and to stop using it(which I had already done) but she told me that they are a waste of money. So just thought i'd share that with you.

TBH I was fighting a losing battle with it since that was during my 2nd pg and I had a million stretch marks from the first pg

It's meant to be skin type that determines if you'll get them or not. I was told by mw to ask my mum if she had them. She did(remember seing them when I was small) so i'd check with close female relatives, and if they haven't got any you might be one of the lucky ones

I look at mine as baby marks, proof that my dc are mine

I second palmers coco stuff, very cheap and I didn't get a single stretch mark (honest). Wish there was an equivalent for the eye bags that have developed since the birth though!

Neverenough · 07/03/2008 15:27

I'm afraid nothing will prevent stretch marks-it is all about skin type and how quickly your skin is stretched. But there are some nice creams out there that smell lovely and feel nice-they won't do anything though.Trust me I'm a doctor!

I didnt have a single stretchmark all the way through my pg. Was oh so proud that my tummy would return to look normal! Gave birth... looked down and i was covered in the sodding things. Im not even kidding! I have a pic of me that was taken a few days b4 i had my baby, full belly shot the lot. there was no way they were hiding anywhere and then whumph there they were. I was not impressed... but i did get a scrummy yummy little baby so i say the swap was ok. Just dnt think i can ever wear a bikini again and im only 20

chocolatespiders · 07/03/2008 16:28

i think any kind of oil is the way to go....

baby oil
bio oil

cosima · 07/03/2008 16:33

the best moisturiser is when you moisturise from the inside. eat lots of avocado, olive oil and vitamin c plus loads of water

Sanwi · 07/03/2008 21:22

i got a big tub of Derma Mum from boots - about £12. lasted ages, used it religiously, not one single stretchmark on the old muffin top

disneystar · 07/03/2008 21:28

you lucky ppl you no stretch marks i tried the oil and creams 1st and 2nd time pg but after baby number 6 each of my lines is like a road map with its own story to tell

PregnantPenguin · 09/03/2008 00:03

My fave is the sanctuary Mum to be range. Feels and smells wonderful.

banality · 09/03/2008 00:05

bubblagirl · 09/03/2008 10:27

i used e 45 oils when i was pregnant no stretch marks what so ever then when belly went down i had stretch marks it is supposed to be how your genetics are

but i dont have many and they are barely visable it was tops of my legs that suffered most

bubblagirl · 09/03/2008 10:38

body lotion with e 45 not oils

slim22 · 09/03/2008 10:55

oil liberally at least once a day straight out of the shower on damp skin.

Don't know if it works. Makes skin soft and supple anyway.

I id not have any for DS and so far at 7 months nothing yet.

Don't forget your breasts hips and bum and thighs.

mad4mybaby · 09/03/2008 11:26

bio oil! By far. You can get it cheaper on ebay
