Section at 38 weeks - steroids?

Hello

wondering if anyone can share their experience of an early-ish elective c-section at 38 weeks? Were you given steroids? Was your baby ok?

i went into spontaneous labour with my son at 37+3 but it ended in an emergency c-section due to failure to progress and foetal distress.

i am currently 20 weeks with my daughter and saw the consultant today who has agreed to an ECLS at 38 weeks rather than the recommended 39 because I’m not likely to make it that long based on my first pregnancy.

the consultant told me that guidelines state I should receive steroids to reduce baby’s chance of needing NICU, however she also was not keen on giving it because of the negative side effects including lower IQ in the baby… this has left me a bit conflicted!

has anyone had an ECLS before 39 weeks? Did you have steroids? How were you and the baby afterwards?

thank you if you got this far!

I had both of my boys at 38+ something, no steroids and both were fine.

I had a planned c section at 36 weeks. With no steroids.
Baby was fine. She just had to go under a heat lamp for a few hours on the ward.

The only one who was ill was dd who was 41 weeks. 2 days in scbu plus steroids and antibiotics.
