You get what you're given. Just wish for a healthy baby.

im currently pregnant with my third girl. I’d always pictured myself having a boy so I did feel sad that I would never have the baby boy I’d pictured. But now I’m nearing my due date and the bags are packed with gorgeous clothes and her name is picked out I’m so excited to meet my little girl and now I can’t imagine having a boy.

Yes sex disappointment is real. But at 23 weeks, this baby is happening whatever its sex. It's hard OP but better face facts, and if you struggle with disappointment, make sure to get help. For your sake and the kids'.

FWIW I went girl, girl, boy and the third pregnancy didn't feel much different from the first two. But no point speculating - find out.

I felt like I needed a son because my father was so vocal in his disappointment that I was a girl. What could your reason be? You'll have to deal with it somehow if the boy doesn't happen. All the best.

Were you not told at your 20 week ultrasound what you were having? I think it's great to find out early so you can prepare yourself.

Definitely find out if you can. I had this with my two sons. I still long for a girl and I think a piece of me always will. When people say just hope for a healthy baby that's rubbish. Obviously you hope for a healthy baby and when you talk about gender issues and people slap you with 'healthy baby' it's just demeaning your feelings. Gender disappointment is a real thing.x

What is it that you imagine will be different in your life if your child has a penis instead of a vagina? What part of having a boy is it you're so attached to?

Goodornot · 24/10/2023 14:01

Fear? Of what?
That the baby will not be what you wanted?

Why have another just to get a boy and risk being stuck with a baby you don't want?

Dat baby is a human being don't reject it bcos it's a gal. Dat baby if a gal will be d same as d others and love you just the same.

“It’s not nice having 3 the same gender”?

No words 🙄.

Jolewis87 · 24/10/2023 15:31

Simply don’t try for a baby if you have gender disappointment. This blows my mind. People lose babies/kids everyday, some people can’t even have them and people are worrying about the sex when they know full well it’s 50/50 before even having a baby.

Kaybee93 · 24/10/2023 22:18

I don't know what people are trying to achieve by berating OP here? Obviously they want a healthy child and will love them regardless of their gender. That isn't the issue here. The issue is gender disappointment and it's a valid and sensitive topic. Don't start bashing and bringing up miscarriages etc 🤦🏼‍♀️ there's enough shame and guilt over the feelings without people saying get some perspective, OP has perspective, it's an emotional issue not a logical one!

What do you mean by this quote?

I understand people suffer from gender disappointment but that's a strange comment! "Not nice"? It's an innocent baby. I'm a bit baffled OP.

WalkedInJustToWalkOut · 26/10/2023 04:18

You can’t help how you feel but you need to seek help regardless of the sex of the baby.

If it’s a girl, all your girls will potentially pick up on the disappointment in time and it’ll negatively impact your relationship with them and their self worth.

If it’s a boy, you may favour him and the much wanted boy. It may impact your relationship with your girls, the relationship your 3 kids have with each other, cause jealousy and resentment. It may impact the girls confidence. Your son may grow up to be entitled as he’s been the favourite and treated better.

Theres potential problems whatever the sex because you have a strong preference. Seek therapy because it can fuck up families forever!

EdgeOfACoin · 26/10/2023 06:56

I have read that if you have two children of the same sex already then you are more likely to have a third of the same sex.

This is because sex is determined by the sperm, i.e. whether it carries the 'x' or 'y' chromosome, and some men are predisposed to produce one type of sperm over the other.

I'm not saying this will happen to you but it's better to be prepared.

Whoopsadaisydownagain · 26/10/2023 07:11

I had two of the same gender . In a few years it won't matter to you and if you look back it would feel strange to have had anything different from what you end up with.
