Due date confusion

Hi, I don’t know if anyone can help with the confusion.

At my booking scan I was told instead of being 12+3 weeks I was actually 13+3 weeks along. But instead of changing my due date to match this, they have kept it the same as if I was 12+3, meaning when I’d be full term I would be 41 weeks according to me being 13+3 (16+4 now).

I had my 16 week community midwife appointment, and I queried this and they said that since my due date is the 26th of March, I am 15+4 and not 16+4 even tho by my booking appointment scan dates I should be, and it was written on my booking performa I was 13+3 then. They just didn’t seem to understand what I was saying despite laying it all out for them.

I don’t know if I’m being completely stupid, but my due date should surely be changed since I was found to be 13+3 at my 12+3 booking scan.

My 19 week anomaly scan I was given the exact date they want me to get it, but by going by the community midwife and my “due date” I would only be 18 weeks. This also changes appointments booked such as my GTT and consultant appointments.

I don’t know whether to query this with the hospital or to wait until my anomaly scan to question this then and see what dates that puts me at.

Hope someone can help my confusion! Many thanks!

They usually give you your due date based on your dating scan at 12 weeks, and not keep it as your LMP. It's odd they didn't change it for you then at your scan.

I'd definitely query it with your midwife/ hospital. At your 20 week scan they won't date you again, they basically look at your babies measurements, weight etc (as well as checking everything looks good) and check that the percentiles are within range for your due date. With there being a weeks discrepancy this could massively put your measurements way off where they 'should' be and may cause you unnecessary worry and stress down the line.

I only say this as I had a discrepancy between two due dates being only 4 days apart between two different NHS sonographers. I've recently had my 20 week scan and got referred to fetal medicine because I got a small 4th percentile head circumference measurement for baby (all is okay, and the consultant I spoke to isn't concerned so we've been discharged). However, when I thought about it and looked at the percentile charts, the head measurement would actually be on 18th percentile and therefore deemed 'fine' for the due date I wasn't given... if that makes sense?

So I'd say definitely query this, but if you can't get it resolved and find yourself in a similar situation for your 20 week scan, bear in mind that may offer you a possible explanation. Hope that helps and you get it sorted! X

Definitely query it again! They moved my due date back by 8 days based on measurements from my 12 week scan

We're due the same day! im 15 weeks 6 days and due 26th March. Seems strange they didnt change your due date! definitely query it again!

That seems really odd, a dating scan is exactly that - to confirm your correct dates. I would query this further definitely.

The general rule in most places I have worked is to keep the due date the same as your LMP date if there is a week or less discrepancy in the dates. More than a week and they use the scan date. It's always based off the early scan as that's the most accurate.

Thanks for the replies! I had a private gender scan yesterday (boy no.2!) and they confirmed that I am 17 weeks today, so my booking scan is accurate, but my due date is not. They asked what hospital I am with and said they are known for making simple mistakes like this. I’m definitely going to raise this further at my CM appointment next week, and if that fails again then my consistent appointment the following as the week difference can change so much as my pregnancy goes on. Just needed to check I wasn’t being stupid before I raised it again😂

I’ve had the same issue.
Going off my LMP at my 12 week scan I was exactly 12 weeks, they put me like 3 days ahead which is impossible as my period was on 15/07, going off the due date given I’d have had my period on 12/07 which I know I didn’t! I’m baffled by it, they’ve changed my due date from 20/04 to 17/04 too. Can anyone explain this as I’ve tried querying it with midwives and got nowhere.
I tracked ovulation too and tested positive 9DPO, their calculations don’t add up and aren’t in line with my last period.
