6 weeks pregnant and bleeding like period… what to do?

Hello!

After 4 months off the pill and not preventing, last week I got a positive pregnancy test with my period a week overdue. Clear blue digital said 1-2 weeks, and I know conception day was 3 weeks ago.

First day of LMP was nearly 3 weeks before that. Would I still class myself as 6 weeks pregnant even though I know the specific conception date?

I started spotting light and brown on Tuesday and last night (Wednesday) and today, I am bleeding like a normal period. I’m unsure what to do next as I can’t find contact details for an EPU in my area. Do I just wait until I stop bleeding and test again in a few weeks to see if it has gone negative? Or do I need to be seen by someone?

This is/was my first pregnancy, so am very much in the dark with this. Any help would be greatly appreciated xx

Hospital asap

Of course if you think you need to go to hospital then you should.

Otherwise if you’ve got no pain and you’re not bleeding any more heavily than a normal period then give your GP a call tomorrow.

The other option is to call 111 for advice if you feel you need it.

What for? Most A&Es will simply refer you to the Early Pregnancy Unit. Which keeps daytime hours, and is shut.

OP, if I'm reading this correctly, you're functionally 3 weeks post conception so 5 weeks pregnant? If that's the case, a scan at EPU won't help in any case to determine whether your pregnancy is ongoing or not. There's really nothing to be done for an early miscarriage, unless it complicates with infection, severe bleeding or pain. You could call EPU tomorrow and see if they'll see you for HCG blood tests to see if your levels are rising, but at this time of night I'd sit tight if you're otherwise feeling OK, tbh.

Best to you.

There’s not much to do really.
Unless the bleeding gets very heavy and the pain gets unmanageable after your usual paracetamol/ibuprofen/codeine based pain killers.
EPAU would be the place to go but as you are struggling to find one, could you make an appointment with your GP tomorrow?
GP could refer and know of the nearest place. Also would put it on your medical notes.

Good luck

Yes that’s correct, I know conception was 3 weeks ago, but when inputting my LMP into various apps and trackers, they seem to be telling me 6 weeks pregnant- so can be quite confusing.

I don’t want to cause any fuss and pain is like a normal period really, I’m just not sure of the usual process. If it’s so early on and it is a miscarriage or chemical pregnancy, I didn’t know if it’s something you just let happen and don’t need further intervention for. I just don’t want to receive my booking appointment or have contact from the maternity unit without knowing if I am still pregnant or not.

Thank you!

@MrsNandortheRelentless the pain is just like a normal period, so wouldn’t waste the hospitals time at this point.

I did a self referral to the maternity unit (probably naively early now thinking about it) so haven’t been in contact with the GP. Agree they would probably be the best bet, but feel a strange sense of shame around it and the fact I don’t even know how many weeks I would be classed as.

thank you x

At this stage they’d date from your last known period so you’d be considered 5-6wks pregnant. Sadly chemical pregnancies are extremely common, unless you start bleeding excessively/are in unbearable pain you’ll likely be told to let nature take it’s course and retest in 2wks time.

So sorry you’re going through this, as someone who lost her first pregnancy at a little over 7 weeks I know only too well how rubbish it is xx

Hello all

I am 6 weeks pregnant and I am bleeding đŸ©¸ bright red not enough to fill a pad but still enough to be shocked . Like a period when wiping . I’ve come to a&e and they have tested my urine which has come back positive and done a blood test . I have an emergency scan booked in for next Tuesday afternoon but basically have to see how it goes untill then . Has anyone else experienced this and continued with a successful pregnantcy ?

thanks xxx
