Upset tummy and blood when I wipe 13 weeks pregnant

Hi ladies,

I'm about 13 weeks pregnant, had a successful scan on Monday this week.

However today I have woken with a slight tummy ache, I've needed to poo a couple of times today but it's not diarrhea. Sorry for tmi.

Now when I wipe I sometimes get some blood (from my vagina) and now I'm panicking that the pain is from my womb and not number 2 related at all...

I had a missed miscarriage at 10+6 (found out at 13+2) in January so I'm currently in panic mode. What do I do?

I have no experience of pregnancy at all but I’d imagine you should call your midwife? Then maybe you can have an emergency scan.

Newuser75 · 05/10/2023 15:31

Give your midwife or early pregnancy unit a call and hopefully they will put your mind at rest.

If it helps I had bleeding early on in my first pregnancy and then a few times later. My son is now 10 😀. Wishing you all the luck in the world!

It’s probably nothing, but check with the midwife as PP says

Are you sure it isn’t piles?!

Ttcmumma · 05/10/2023 15:34

It was definitely when I wiped my vagina, I had a mmc in January so I still check everytime I wipe and then wipe my bum after I've checked. I called epu and they've said the can't help ATM and just to go to a&e if it happens again. I've checked internally with a finger and doesn't seem to be any blood in there...

@Ttcmumma call your GP and ask for an EPAU referral because you are spotting and cramping.

Let your GP push for you to be seen, that is their job.

I really hope this is just hormones shifting things and all is well. I know first hand how it feels when things go wrong and I hope you are spared that this time.

Good luck, OP and hopefully this is nothing at all and you have good news. <3

Hi there

I am currently 19weeks pregnant and have been having the same issues on and off for a couple of weeks. I have had several scans and all is fine, baby is still growing, cervix is closed, and no sign of blood internally. They think it is likely linked to hormonal changes as the area around the cervix can be very sensitive in pregnancy and I will also there might be an element of piles or straining too hard (sorry tmi). They are also not concerned unless the blood is bright red. Mine has always been pink and mixed with discharge. Speak to your midwife anyway but spotting is not always a sign of trouble. All the best x

Ttcmumma · 05/10/2023 21:04

Thanks ladies, I've booked a private scan for tomorrow morning. I believe the spotting to have stopped now and can only hope it doesn't come back, very mild cramping still there which wouldn't have worried me without the combination of spotting.

Epu have been rubbish and couldn't get hold of my doctor, best i got was a request for them to contact me within 2 working days.. which could end up being Monday!

The place I'm going to can't necessarily help if anything is going wrong but they can apparently refer to epu and send them a written report on their findings. Fingers crossed I'm panicking over nothing 🤞🏻but I know I won't settle having had the combination of cramping and blood without atleast seeing evidence that all is ok.

If it makes you feel any better I had exactly the same after a bowel movement at 17 weeks, but with much more blood than you. All is fine and currently 34 weeks.

Moomoomo · 05/10/2023 21:42

Good luck for your scan.

I had a mmc too and it really makes you lose trust in your body. In my current pregnancy I bled on and off from the very beginning until I was about 4 months, it was never a lot but was sometimes accompanied by pain. I assumed the worst but am now 34 weeks.

Ttcmumma · 05/10/2023 21:49

@TTCJJB @Moomoomo thank you ladies, a mmc really does make you lose trust in your body and question absolutely EVERYTHING. I've never had bleeding in pregnancy before besides miscarrying so of course it's panicked me. I have a healthy 5 year old back when I was so obvious to the trauma of loss.

Hearing that you both have experienced this and have progressed well in your pregnancies definitely helps me potentially be able to sleep tonight! So happy for you both that you're getting your sweet bundle of joy soon x

@Ttcmumma I’m glad you’re getting a private scan tomorrow. Update us if you have the capacity. Everything crossed for you xx

roro87 · 05/10/2023 23:02

@Ttcmumma I had this the other week I was roughly 10 w 3d. Like you had bowel movements and then wipe front separately first and was the exact same. Had a scan that day by coincidence so I mentioned it. All was fine on the scan and no indication where it was coming from. Like you i checked internally and nothing. I would say in my experience I think the BM irritated my cervix a little. Your picture is so pinky it looks like a tiny bit mixed with discharge. So glad you are getting a scan please let us know how you get on x

RiderofRohan · 06/10/2023 09:08

Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

Ttcmumma · 06/10/2023 12:12

Baby is doing fine! Can't see any issues within the womb. Not sure where the blood is from, she said it could just be the stretching and growing or even the extra blood flow to the vagina causing sensitivity to the outside. But all looks fine x

Thanks ladies, such a relief 😊 lovely place I found through the panic too, very sweet sonographer and even got a couple of short videos sent to me of the scan!
