6weeks no heartbeat

Had an internal scan at EPAU yesterday, sonographer told us there’s no heartbeat but that was quite normal as I was measuring 6 wks 3 days but then midwife told us that we’ve had a MMC but I need to have another scan next week as measurement was 6.5mm and has to be 7mm with no heartbeat as per NHS protocol. Just confused as the sonographer seemed like all was ok but midwife has said otherwise. Are we giving ourselves false hope that there might be a heartbeat on the scan next week or is the midwife right that the pregnancy has ended?

I am so sorry for what has happened. At my first scan baby was 3.8 mm and there was a strong clear heartbeat. Wait for the next scan, but I wouldn't put my hopes to high. Then, you never know, but be prepared. I'm so sorry 😔

Hey Hun, is the measurement for crl or for the whole sac? Mine was 4mm at 6 weeks with easily detected heartbeat. About 12-13 weeks now and second scan was fine too.

I did unfortunately have a mmc in January so I understand and am so so sorry if this is what you are going through. My MMC was at 13 weeks (died at 10+6) so was much easier to detect with no heartbeat and sizing so far behind.

I'd say expect the worst, hope for the best and pray that on the next scan baby has grown and heartbeat is detectable! I've seen it happen before where people go back and all is fine x

@Ttcmumma thank you for your reply…the CRL was 6.5mm, I can’t remember the measurement of the sac. I think I’m doing that anyway, preparing for the worst but hoping for a miracle. It’s just the conflicting views from the sonographer and the midwife that really confused us. It’s going to be a long wait until next Friday for the rescan.

Ah yeah my crl was 4mm with heartbeat which doesn't sound great but I guess every pregnancy and baby is different? I've got everything crossed for you. I hope it ends up a happy surprise x
