SO annoyed -- RANT WARNING

Ive been having a lot of pain etc in the past few weeks and I think my IBS may have been triggered by my pregnancy. Anyway so I have put up with that and a load of anxiety about other things for long enough and so today I had a doctors appointment at 9.50

Sods law I was too flipping ill this morning to leave the ** house! My doctors is a cab ride away so it wasnt just a case of suffering for a few minutes getting there and I just knew I wasnt in any fit state to make it - we've all been there!

So I had a nap to see if it helped me feel better and when I woke up I rang the doctors and spoke to the receptionist. I appoligised for missing my appointment this morning and explained why and then asked if I could possibly see someone later - "NO" was the reply. You want a routine appointment and we dont have one till Monday - I did say I had been suffering for weeks but she just said that I could call back later to see if they had a cancelation but not to hold out much hope. She said I should have come in this morning and that it couldnt be too urgent if I had missed the appointment! -- where the hell is her bedside manner!

So now I am really annoyed, still in pain and if it flares up again Im going to call NHS direct and ask them what to do as my doctors receptionist should be in the army.

Did you phone before the appointment to explain?

coastalmum · 06/03/2008 11:17

Insist on a phone call from doc today.

The dc's and I have most of our appointments over the phone. Saves a lot of hassel, and doc soon lets you know if he needs you to come in.

Could you not speak to the midwife? Maybe she can refer you to someone.

I sympathise that you are in pain, but if you didn't call to cancel the appointment this morning and see if they could fit you in later, I can see why they said no. They aren't being difficult, they just don't have an appointment for this afternoon.

agree with meemar
other people will be trying to get appointments and it would be unfair to put you to the top of the list because you were already given an appointment for today
couldn't your dp/dh taken time off work to take you?

unfortunatly from the time I woke up to the time I had a nap, which was after the appointment had gone, I was stuck in the bathroom unable to get to the phone. -- I did explain this to her as I do normally cancel appointments before they happen.

I dont live with my boyfriend and he is 200 miles away so he cant take me anywhere or do very much at all to help. When he is around he is an angel but unfortunatly this is the price you pay for a long distance relationship.

I understand if they dont have an appointment they dont have an appointment but it was her attitude that annoyed me

Sorry to sound harsh but I am with the Receptionist. Someone who was very ill and desparate for your appointment could have had it.

I hope you manage to get an appointment on Monday though and that you get your IBS sorted. My husband suffers badly too.
