Vitamins- confused!

I've been on 25mcg Vit D since before pregnancy due to a deficiency. When I told the doctor I was pregnant I asked of I should keep on it they said yes.

Currently 8 weeks, just has a catch up with another doc from the surgery about blood results (have regular TSH checks) and asked about the vit D again. He said "are you taking pregnancy approved vitamin D". I was like...what. Never heard of that, the previous doc never mentioned it. He said there were things in normal vitamins you shouldn't take while pregnant but if it just said Vit D on ingredients it should be alright. He said I should tell the midwife I'd taken the wrong ones if not.

It's the standard boots one, has lots of preservatives in it and now I'm worried. Bit confused as never heard of this before and none of the websites (nhs, Tommy's, NCT) say you need to take special pregnancy approved vit d?

Will talk to the pharmacist to check, but does anyone else have experience of this?

It could be to do with some multi vits having vitamin a?

I imagine he's referring to multi vitamins that have more than vit d in - vitamin a supplements should be avoided.

I wondered that too but he knows I'm taking the higher dose vit D, because he prescribed it to me weeks ago! And surely he knows you don't get that dose in the multi vit packs. Oh well. Got a bit distracted today by having to go to A&E due to bleeding so never checked with the pharmacist in the end.

I have an EPU scan first thing tomorrow so please cross fingers for me.

Maybe he means Vitamin D3 rather than D2?
D3 is from animal sources and is more effective than plant based D2

Or he could be talking about multivitamins and avoiding Vitamin A?

Hope all goes well with the scan x

Maybe he was asking about any other vitamins you're on, rather than just the prescribed one

There isn't such a thing as a pregnancy safe/unsafe VitaminD. The concern would just be if taking something like Vitamin A along with it perhaps in a multivitamin. A normal vitamin D tab or spray on its own or with folic acid from Boots/supermarket is usually fine.
