Hi

I am 7 weeks at the mo with my 2nd child.

In my 1st pregnancy I did not show until I was well into my 2nd trimester but this time I already have a pronounced bump - so much so that I am already in maternity trousers and people are starting to notice

Now i promise faithfully I have not been stuffing my face with cream cakes (!)

Has anyone else experienced this ? I am suspecting that it is like this 2nd time around as everything is already stretched etc

We have twins in the family - My paternal grandad had twin brothers,

Just wondering as my Hubbie is having kittens that there might be more than one

Personally I am just worried that I going to end up like a whale with a HUGE baby - DS was 10lbs (ouch)!!!!

The hormones of early pregnancy, especially progesterone cause bloating, especially of the bowel which can cause htis; also water retention. Your baby is about the size of a grain of rice at the moment, so even if there was 2 it wouldn't be massive!! Your uterus is growing yes, but won't be big enough to make a bump yet, it rises above the pelvis around 12 weeks. Sorry!!

do feel bloated so that makes sense (thank you)

Gem, I was exactly the same with DS2 and with my 3rd pregnancy (that ended in MC) I was in maternity clothes at 6 weeks, had strangers asking when I was due, I also wondered if I was having twins, or if I was further on than I thought, by the time I was about 16 weeks I was absolutely mahoooooosive, I was sent for a diabetes test came back clear, it started to get embarressing when people would ask when I was due, they were expecting me to say any minute or something but I was coming out with in 5 months etc.

DS1's nursery teacher was the first person to ask me outright if I was pregnant, I said yes, but only 6 weeks, the next day the other nursery teacher came up to me and said how come we weren't told about me being 6 months pregnant, obviously the first teacher must have thought I'd meant 6 months, not weeks!

Anyway, I did keep growing, and growing, and growing, till about 28/29 weeks then it all slowed down and I didn't get much bigger until the last week.

DS2 was 8lb 10, a bit bigger than DS1 (7lb 15) still not enormous!

Good luck!! Am hoping to be joining you fairly soon

have heard with no 2 you get bigger much faster than with no 1. doesn't necessarily mean dc will be massive.

(but this is what i've heard, rather than from experience, and is really a bit of a bump til someone else comes along!)

ooh yes bumps do get bigger the more you have iyswim, im 35 weeks with db3, and each time have got bigger. DS1 ws 6lb 11oz, DS2 was 8lb 1oz. Don't know about DD yet!!

I'm 31weeks now, on 2nd pregnancy and was wearing REALLY loose clothes from about 8 weeks to hide my bump. First time around I didn't show till well into 2nd trimester.

I'm a size 8-10, really fit and healthy and my weight gain is all "up-front" so it's not all pies and ice-cream!! I'm only 3lb heavier than I was at this stage with 1st. I've heard that 2nd time your womb and tummy is just more able to give as it's less taut.

My friend had the same thing 2nd time - got big really quickly but hardly grew at all in the last few weeks.
