Hi all, Just asking as nobody has given me a response at all, does anyone know why I got two postive digitals between two separate days, but now all I get it negatives and I’m just worried if I’m not pregnant at all or if it’s a case of my hcg levels being so low , if that makes sense I have a appointment with the midwife next week, so I just wanna ask incase anyone has had the same problem🥲

Hey, could have been evap lines on the positives or it could have been a chemical pregnancy. Do you have pics of the tests at all?

Gardenlady543 · 30/09/2023 16:21

@Ellsibels how far along do you think you are? If you're early on the you may have had either false positives and you weren't pregnant, a chemical where you had a positive hcg but it's dropped or the recent test is a false negative.

If you're quite far along there is something called the hook effect where hcg is so high that the test can come back negative.

Ellsibels · 30/09/2023 16:28

So according to my app, I’m about 4 weeks and 1 day since I got the positives, but when I tested it said 1-2 on the digital, so I might be further on but not entirely sure🥲

I done it on the digitals two days apart and they both said this x

The tests work from your ovulation date not your LMP (which is normally 2 weeks earlier). So when you’re 4 weeks pregnant you’ve only actually been pregnant for 2 weeks.

I can’t work out if you’ve got negative tests or not? If you’ve got a positive and missed a period I’d assume you’re pregnant. I appreciate wanting to double check but you don’t need to keep taking tests.

Ellsibels · 30/09/2023 16:37

@PurBal oh, but yeah I did get two Postives on the clearblue digital tests, but I just kept testing everyday to make sure if I was pregnant or not and it kept coming up negative ever since I got the positives so it’s worried me as I’ve been trying for a baby for a while, x

Whataretheodds · 30/09/2023 16:41

It's not necessary to keep testing. Have you had any bleeding?

Ellsibels · 30/09/2023 16:42

@Whataretheodds I had spotting for two days about a week ago, that’s pretty much it

always2323 · 30/09/2023 16:46

You took the test on the 9th of September? Almost 3 weeks ago? So you should be about 7 weeks?

Ellsibels · 30/09/2023 16:49

@always2323 I took the tests on the 8 and 9th of September so basically 3 weeks ago like you said yeah😂, I don’t know how many weeks I am, my app only says I’m apparently 4 weeks pregnant, but I’m not entirely sure until I see the midwife next week, so I don’t know whether to worry about my tests being negative or just wait and see what happens

You count from the 1st day of your last period, regardless what the digital test says, your MW will always go from your last period

I would be really baffled that you have been testing negative for a few weeks.

You need a early scan and perhaps a blood test really since you have had some bleeding and negative tests

Ellsibels · 30/09/2023 16:59

@always2323 that makes a lot more sense, because my last period I had was in july I bled from the start of July to the end of July, then I had one day of spotting on August 6th , I haven’t spotted since the 18th of September but I spotted for two days so up to the 19th September, and had no more bleeding since, but been testing negative since after I got my positives so I’m not sure if that had anything to do with it? If that made sense ?

@Ellsibels can you call the early pregnancy unit and see if they will see you, if not you can book a ultrasound scan with ultrasound direct. From 5 weeks you will be able to see placement and from 6.5 weeks there will be a visible heart beat.

How many digital tests have you done that have said negative?

I have an appointment next week with the maternity unit, 8th October, I've done quite a lot of tests and they all said negative, I've tested like 4 times each day everyday ever since my positives, I have symptoms of pregnancy though, headaches, nausea, I've thrown up a couple of times too and I have a lot of back pain at the moment, and a lot of bloat x

OP posts:
Gardenlady543 · 30/09/2023 17:51

@Ellsibels 8th October is a long way away and if it's with the midwife that is for booking they won't do a scan. I would either speak to the early pregnancy unit or get an early scan privately. Ultrasound direct are open on sundays so you should be able to get a scan tomorrow.

Yeah it's the midwife only I'm seeing on the 8th of October, I'm a little confused on the ultrasound site, only because I'm not sure what scan it is I need? If that makes sense x

@Ellsibels you want early viability scan.

Puddleducks9 · 30/09/2023 17:54

You need a viability scan and it will be an internal one, make sure they offer that (ultrasound direct does)

Gardenlady543 · 30/09/2023 17:55

@Ellsibels they can sometimes see through the abdomen but you may need an internal scan at this early point.

Princesspeach31 · 30/09/2023 17:58

Perhaps it would be a good idea to call your gp and request blood tests to check your hcg levels? I think that if you were testing positive at week 4 but haven’t been since, it’s possible that it was a chemical pregnancy sadly. But I really hope that I’m wrong, especially as your period hasn’t arrived yet🤞

Puddleducks9 · 30/09/2023 17:59

@Ellsibels have you tried peeing in a cup and diluting it with some water before you test?

Haven't tried that no? What is it suppose to do?

OP posts:
Gardenlady543 · 30/09/2023 18:04

@Ellsibels this is because of the hook effect, if you dilute urine with the same amount of water, it will half the hcg level and can test positive, when the full concentration of hcg can overwhelm the test when it's very high.

Puddleducks9 · 30/09/2023 18:04

I think there’s a theory that if you have high HCG Levels it’s difficult for the pregnancy test to handle it, so you might not get a positive. So diluting the urine helps. I think it’s called the hook effect if you Google it.
