21w - lost mucus plug

I am 21 weeks and I had an internal cervical length scan today. Cervix was long, closed, not funneling or anything.

Anyway got home and as soon as I went to the loo lost a big dark red blob of something, I did wonder if it was mucus plug. Anyway I've just gone again and wiped and although it wasn't bloody there was another big blob of this stringy gooey stuff. First pregnancy so not 100% sure what it is but do you think it's the mucus plug, and should I be worried? When I googled it it says it's very bad because it's a sign your about to go into labour but presumably since my cervical scan was all good only a few hours ago the scan itself just dislodged it and it'll grow back?

Anyone else experienced anything like this?

Contact your maternity and see what they say… hopefully all is ok x

You can loose it several times during your pregnancy I think and it grows back!! Only at the end of pregnancy is it a sign of labour. Either way I would ring your local unit in the morning to get some advice.

You can definitely lose it and it grows back, this happened to me at 32 weeks but given that it was bloody, I would give your maternity triage line a call now for advice- they will tell you whether you need to get checked or not. All the best.

You definitely need to ring. Mucus plug is usually blood streaked but not usually a fully red blob. Sounds more like a blood clot. Definitely get checked out, things like that aren’t worth leaving

Just an update on this, I called and went into triage this morning. They weren't super concerned but thought the initial blood was just a result of irritation from the scan, and the other mucus is either partially mucus plug (but they aren't worried if it is) or it could possibly be wierd discharge from an infection so they've done a swab just to double check.

Is it not the lube from the wand thing?
