Bleeding after having a baby

I had my baby 6.5 weeks ago and am exclusively breastfeeding. My post partum bleeding seemed to be tapering off and was only lightly spotting but otherwise white for the last 3 weeks. Today I am bleeding lighter to medium red blood… not talking heavy or need for a maternity pad but heavier than in the weeks. I also have some slight cramping. I’ve not been doing anything differently. i did have an episiotomy but no issues with that and stitches were healing. No offensive odour. Is it normal for lochia to come and go like this ? Could it be a period if I’m breastfeeding ?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Could well be a period. Breastfeeding can delay periods in some people but not everyone, it’s quite common for women who breastfeed to still have periods.

I had this too I think about 6/7 weeks pp when EBF and when I thought my lochia had stopped. It lasted about 3 days and then stopped again I only ever needed a normal sanitary pad. Haven't had anything since and baby is 18 weeks now. I had a c section. Hope this helps x

With my first i bled for 6 weeks, then stopped and got my period at 8 weeks. I was EBF and my period was then regular until i got pregnant with my second.

This happened to me recently at exactly the same time. I was still bleeding bright red at 11 weeks post partum and started getting labour like pains every day. At 12 weeks post partum I passed a 5cm lump of placenta! Keep an eye on this OP and ask your GP to refer you for an ultrasound if things don’t improve

It can definitely be your period. I EBF'd both of my children and my periods resumed 4 weeks pp both times. No break at all.

could definitely be your period. After I deliver I have four weeks of PP bleeding, a week of white lochia and then red bleeding starts again. Thereafter I’m back to every 28 days. I exclusively BF and this even happened feeding twins.

Midwives & doctors act like this is some kind of abomination. The assumption being that you can’t actually be EBF or must be pumping/supplementing/bit feeding through the night.
It’s uncommon but it happens.

With both of my kids and EBF I stopped post part in bleeding after about 3 weeks, but at 7 weeks had what I thought was a period and then nothing until around 9/10 months. Once they started later on they were regular but that first one at 7 weeks was a one off both times.

I breastfed for over 2 years. Period came
back almost immediately after birth. Most disappointing.

It wasn’t completely regular until 4 months pp though. Then it was bang on clockwork. I was robbed.
